After literally WEEKS of researching and trying to figure out what my next laptop will be, I think I have chosen the alienware 17.

I currently have a config that is $2147+tax for the following:

    i7 4700 processor
    1080p screen (non 3D)
    8GB RAM
    500GB 5400 RPM HD W/8GB SSD
    GTX 780M graphics card
    1 year warranty

I have a feeling I am paying way too much for the 780 as the upgrade cost was around $600. I checked Notebookcheck and saw the performance of the R9 M290x and the GTX 860M/770M (they are almost equal in performance) and honestly I cannot justify paying so much money to be able to get a few more ultra settings. What do you guys think? Would the 860 or 770 be good enough for a mix of high/ultra settings in most games? I could always upgrade to the 880M later on when it lowers in price.

Also, do you think I could get a better price for that above if I haggle more? I only haggled slightly and didnt really push the rep...

edit: I will say this, having owned an 17xR3 with AMD Radeon HD 6990M I will NEVER touch an AMD card with a 10ft pole unless its the ONLY option available. lol

I don't think that system is worth more than $2000, especially with only a single year of standard warranty.

In regards to the question in the title of your thread: Yes, the 780M is definitely worth $600.
