Hi,
As the title says, I have an Alienware m17xr4 modded with a GTX 980m.
I've managed to mod my drivers for my the GPU and it's working perfectly up until the new drivers got released. The latest drivers it works on is on 355.98.
Any driver after 355.98 just fails.
Anyone have any idea what's happening? Or perhaps have a copy of the inf file for modding the driver?
Thanks,
RT
p.s. I'm trying to install driver 358.91 for fallout 4

have you tried the INF from laptopvideo2go? Ignore the search and just drill down on the driver you are interested in to get a link just for the inf to replace.
www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers They say win 10 but they are for 7 and 8 as well.
Good luck. -
I successfully modded the 358.91 drivers last night for my 980m on my AW17 Ranger.
This is the way I did it:
1- Download official driver from Nvidia (for Win8.1 64 bit)
2- Extract files from the exe using Winrar.
3- Download latest modded drivers from Eurocom :
http://downloads.eurocom.com/support/drivers/upgradeyourlaptop/Alienware/
4- Open the nvcvi.inf file which is the one that corresponds to Clevo (if your 980m is mxm). Copy all Dev references in the Strings section which refer to the 980m. Of course I could've taken the one that matches exactly mine but there's no harm in taking the full list... Paste them in the Strings section of the official inf file of the new driver.
5- Do same as above for the OS section. All credits for this goes to the sticky on Techinferno by the way.
6- Restart Windows with DSE disabled
7- I manually updated the driver of the 980m by pointing Device Manager to the modded nvdmi.inf file. Restarted my PC and working perfectly since then.
Hope that helps!Last edited: Nov 14, 2015 -
What's the "OS" section?

The OS section is basically the sections that start with : [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.6.x]
