Hi folks i still have some issues with my GPU causing black screen.......I have tested it alot and it seems i get the back screen issue when my card hit 73 Celsius, is this a high temerature for this card? I simply cant understand why, i bought the heatsink for the 680m , 14 m/kw pads from Fujipoly, IC Diamond 7 paste (have repasted several times), even bought an notebook cooler under the laptop but i keeps on black screen when it hit 73 Celsius.

Doesn't sound like a temp issue to me. Low 70's is what I usually see but sometimes a non sli title can push it to low 80's. Like you I asked around and it seems normal on a 980m.
The display just going black is something I have only seen with driver issues. A couple of recent driver releases had me resorting to a system restore. Those black screens happened as soon as the card started in windows though.
Have you tried a reseat? You don't need to remove the heatsink to get the whole unit out (only one fan) and clean the edge connector.

    Good luck.

I have actually tried reseating, plus a bunch of different driver versions, and like you have read that 73 Celsius isnt a high temp for this card, thats why i cant understand why this issue persist, my card is still under warranty but i cant believe it should be faulty.

Sure does not sound like a faulty card to me either.

Have you checked your pad placement? The VRM circuitry could be overheating and since this is not monitored it could possibly cause a 'blackout'?

Afraid I have no 'pearls of wisdom' on this one :(.

This is it the most likely scenario ... Make sure you are cooling the VRM and VRM MOSFETs.

Can anyone make a picture like this paksus.jpg.86d4b2dbae1fa05432bdab464e014392.jpg with the thickness of the pads they have used on the 980m with the 680m heatsink to make sure i got the thickness right.

But cant it be caused by the mosfets if they arent properly cooled? Like i said its been this way since i got the card brand new......im still under warranty so do you think the card is broken?

If they weren't cooled properly before they are probably burned out now and need replacement.

its not like i cant play with it, but i just cant turn the graphic up where it should, if i play a game like Overwatch on medium/High i can play all night, but if i go til Ultra/Epic it will after some games experiece a black screen, and this will continue after a short gaming time unless i lower the graphic settings.

PS, i have ordered this from Woodstack: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172316747904?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

contact @woodzstack, this isn't the first of his cards that has had failing MOSFET. I also have one of his cards, MOSFET failed, no amount of undervolting or replacing of thermal pads fixes this (I've tried 1.00V undervolt + 1.00mm thermal pad on 3 MOSFETs)

Are you bitter or something, I have not wrong you as far as I know. Have I not offered resolution for the failed card ?

I looked at his card, and found out who he is, that's not my client, that's not my card. Not that I wouldn't help anyone regardless.

But the first two years of selling these I sold thousands of them, I pretty much have less than 1% failures after 2 years. I do not have them just randomly dying all for same reason, honestly Raidriar, I do not recall anyone else with your issue, there might be, but it's not very wide spread, I check these cards best I can.
Anyways, if you are bitter and feel I failed you as seller, or have not made appropriate steps to make it easy to replace or fix the card, then just continue talking to me and lets work something out. I do not want one of my customers feeling my service is bad, or go around telling future clients that my cards have mosfet failure or something.

If I make a mistake or have a client with a bad experience, which you know in this industry you can not easily please everyone, but I try - really, I do, you just got to give it your best, and try and make things right.

lol you nutcase... use liquid Metal and fry the entire PC when it drips everywhere. You can't just recommend LM so easily... it's almost malicious ! At the least advise caution, once.
You know, there has been a LARGE number of cases of people having black screens lately, it's weird, one moment things were fine, and then the windows creative update hits, and then out of no where some issues started world wide affecting almost every GPU. Oddly my experiences caught that once it knows it has creative update or how it is called, the fans stopped working until I finished it. So far noticed this on 3 of the 4 laptops I had in the last week, M5XR2, an X4E2, F5 and a AW17. I am willing to bet it would happen on other laptops too, but when this happened last year or the year before, microsoft fixed the issue with a quick patch and it stopped burning out LCD's so it only lasted like the first week of june or something. Probably just a coincidence. Always right before E3 and stuff like NVidia releases and the big shows and presentations, and summer hitting with higher temps too doesn't help if the fans stop working.

I have on discord 3 people complaining about fan issues right now. most resolved magically for no reason, after a week of issues out of no where. I forget who, but I have a guy on ebay contacting me about such an issue and maybe one here on NBR as well recently. I'm not knowledgeable enough to say for certain how or what caused it. My guess - is some part of a windows update while going through your hardware that it needs to get updates for, it seems to suspend some of it, and it stops acting normal. Sometimes just not being able to take control of it, sometimes just stops altogether. I don't know why but it always seems to be screens and fans around this time of year , every year. If things get hot and burnt out because the system stops acting normally it might even fail to shut off properly when getting too hot, I saw this on the AW17 which was confusing as heck.

Completely uncalled for, all I said was it's not the first card that has suffered MOSFET failure and that if it is still under warranty, he should speak to you immediately and not dilly-daddle with solutions that won't work. In no way, shape, or form did I call you, your products, or your service bad or poor, only that he should start by talking to you. I'm not bitter in the slightest, and I'm no stranger to hardware faults.

I read his post thinking he bought his card and the TEP from you but it seems he only got the TEP.

Lets not blow things completely up, please. No need for any of that.

Sorry thought I read into that and you were upset or something. If anyone has an issue with my cards I do my best to help, I've offered to even buy them back to see the issue, I frantically want to know how to prevent any issue ever !
Thats the honest truth my friend !

The TEP helps but not in all cases, but he is already having issues, its not gonna help that he removes the card and physically starts playing with it at this point, might even cause further damage if he does so when the card is still warm, it might "settle" into a new shape on the micro level with microfractions in the filament of the solder they use or just the variation of the pressure form the screws being removed. I always tell people remove the cards when they're cool.
You know, most of this is just preventative. Sometimes have no fix for issues. Frustrating. :S

Just to clarify, i bought my GPU from a German vendor https://www.ceg-hardcorecustom.com/, and i actually got alot of good advice from Woodstack when i installed the card........If i should decide to buy another upgrade in the future, i would not hesitate to order from Woodstack.
