GTX670MX shows artifacts from time to time.

    Hi guys,

I just want your opinions on my GTX 670MX.

I bought it from upgrademonkey on eBay about a year and a half. Since I built my desktop on January I haven't been using my m17x r3 that much. However, from time to time when starting up from a cold boot or from sleep, the display shows artifacts. It gets solved every time with a power down. I updated the VBIOS on the card with the unlocked one (about 2 months after getting the card) and use it overclocked from time to time while gaming. I've always monitored the temps and the fans and not too much heat gets generated by the 670MX, 65 deg C maximum while gaming. I've performed some testing and it doesn't have any problems nor crashes. I also have a backup copy of the original VBIOS just in case I needed to return or to sell the card.

Is my GTX 670MX dying a slow death? I still have my original 560M just in case it dies or something.

I was also thinking on upgrading to a 780M or 880M by the end of the year or in January. I read that the 780M was better bang from the buck, is this true?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

You could try adjusting some of the 2d level voltages if you like (maybe give them a one step boost).

How can I do that? I don't have any voltage adjusting option on Afterburner or EVGA Precision.

Nvidia Inspector will allow you to play with the 2D settings.

Then something like svet's vbios modder lets you lock it in.

I checked all the P available, but they all have the voltages greyed out.

It could be dieing... There is high chance that such behaviour is as a result of the card failing..

    Hi guys,

Sorry that I took so long to update.

I did reflash the vbios with the new one that has the voltages unlocked. It did not solve the issue completely. However, it happens less frequently now. Also, I can overclock it harder now, so that's good.

I really don't mind if the card is dying since I build a desktop earlier this year and I have the original 560M that came with the computer. However, I would like to know what is the fastest card that I can install (as of now) on my m17x r3. Maybe a 780M? I heard that is a little bit better than the 880M and is a little bit cheaper.

If you can wait, wait for the maxwell cards... They're coming in october! Otherwise, get the 780M over the 880M.. It definetly doesn't have the 880M's issues...

The wait game has begun then! Hahaha I'll just wait for it to die out. Hopefully the maxwell cards will be compatible with the R3.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

it should work with an unlcoked BIOS so don't worry about that.. Main issue is will the cards use MXM3.0B or a new standard? My guess is it will still be MXM3.0B as it does provide more then enough power to the cards..
