My GTX780M have been working flawlessly, but now i cant install NVIDIA drivers, i can see the card in CPU-Z and HWINFO but in Device Manager it now says Standard Microsoft graphic, and theres an Unknown Device, if i try to install NVIDIA drivers it will install Miracast Sounddriver and the When it starts installing the graphic driver the screen flicks one time and the installer says it has failed alle except Miracast Sound, i have tried to use a program to remove all graphic files but still no Luck, and if i try to revert to a regions Windows backup i will get an I/O Error after restart, whats going on? Can Win 8.1 somehow think i use SG even though i have set it to PEG in BIOS? And thats whats ****ing it up??

Hi, no magic answer I'm afraid but I might offer some things to look at.

    1. What was the trigger that started the problem?

    2. Are you sure the unknown device has not been there since you installed win 8? It might be a red-herring and is simply the HD free-fall detector? This always shows up as unknown until the device installer is run.

To me it sounds like the card has had some sort of failure but have you tried a simple clean of the edge connector and reseat? My R3 gave me strange video card issues until I did this.

I think it unlikely windows is 'confused', as long as the bios settings (unlocked bios?) were working then I wouldn't be looking there for the problem.

    Good luck.

Im not sure what triggered it, a friend Of mine borrowed it for a week, and i Got it back yesterday, and when i wanted to upgrade my driver i realized the NVIDIA icon in the buttom Of the screen werent there, and when i tried to install the drivers it failed.

No help there then, unless they put their hand up to something they did or happened when they used it?

Once you strip out drivers (DDU?) the card always shows up as 'standard VGA adapter' until an NV driver is installed. Try a reseat.

Doh! Oh well you figured it before spending money! I Hope MS have dumped that silent refusal to install unsigned drivers - just a pop-up like it used to be would be enough...
