Every game I try and play runs fine on full settings and every few seconds the screen quickly blinks and the whole game slows down , speeds back up and the process repeats. Any ideas what it might be? and any possible fixes?

Sounds like it's automatically switching between displays or the power cord is not connected properly causing it to switch between battery/plugged in modes.

Well it's not supposed to but I'm thinking there's a malfunction/glitch issue causing this? Maybe.

Are the fans coming on and off? Maybe a glitch in the temperature control?

nope, the fans are fine, I just get a quick flicker and it drops the games fps and slowly ramps back up and repeats. This laptop is only a temp until I recieve my other m17x in a few weeks but this is still annoying.... might just call dell

check your power settings, on what you have them set on, and im guessing you probably checked your power cable too, and its its not that, it might be the drivers not being installed properly,

have you checked on multiple games? or just one game? some games dont work properly with win 7. just to throw that out there.

yeah, checked the plug, its fine, Power settings are on High Performance and This happenes with any major game using a 3d Engine, It dosent occur on a few small indie games ive tried but idk wat that might mean.

the reason i ask is that it may be the game itself, i ran into that problem with crysis (the regular one) and Star wars force unleashed 2 crysis. just didnt have proper drivers with running win7, and the SW game is just crap.

How you liking that vertex3? I am thinking about getting 2x 240GB for raid 0 configuration :)

Still waiting for it to come, I should get it within a week or 2, But after all the research I did it seems like the vertex 3 is out performing every other SSD so i can't wait. Plus this laptop I have now is being replaced with the one in my sig, So I wont be installing all my good hardware until I get my Perma laptop.

How u liking the 485m? Is the extra money worth the performance boost plus a 120hz screen?

Dell is sending me another 460m to replace the one in my temp laptop and im taking a retention bracket from the bad one and keeping it, so If I get a 485m swapping cards will be easy but IDK if I feel like constantly swapping if I want to use 3D.

I'm telling ya man, 3 minutes tops to replace that. Keep a mini screwdriver on you and your 460M in your car so you can show people 3D. I would do it simply for the cool factor...I definately would.

ok, think ya just about sold me on it lol, mby u can pm me some basic instructions though on what to do, I can handle installing the hardware but What will I need ot do software wise? just DL different drivers?

and if you need another retention bracket you can just call and tell them u have the same issue im having, they can't test for it apparently so even if they look at ur screen they wont be able to check ur fps, they should just send u another 460m, im sure they wont miss the other cards bracket =P

The glitch issues are things i have seen in the past when i still had my Area 51 9750 machine. i remember it disappeard after a driver update from Nvidia. but i know these things also generally come up when there is a power issue in your system...
