Hi, I'm currently looking for a mouse/mice that can handle everything I want to do with it and still be comfortable. Looking to use it for school, work and gaming (mmo/fps). Hoping it will give the best performance on the market today or next gen.
Not entirely sure if I should go wired or wireless, just as long as the wireless receiver isn't too bulky (ie. Razer Mamba, Microsoft Sidewinder X8). I want it to complement the Alienware M17xR2 too LOL. Any suggestions???
So far I'm think of:
1) Cyborg R.A.T. 7 (wired) ~ $109.99
2) Logitech G700 (wireless/dual) ~ $109.99
3) R.A.T. 9 (releases on 01/15/2011) (wireless) ~ $130-140
4) Razer Mamba (wireless/dual) ~ $119.99
5) Microsoft Sidewinder X8 (wireless/dual) ~ $93.99
6) Razer Naga (wired) ~ $89.00

I can recommend the Logitech g700. I was a bit scared at first when I bought it, simply because it's wireless. But it's very precise! The best wireless mouse that I've ever owned. I do play BF: BC2 and WoW, and it's fantastic in both genres. The extra buttoms is great to have in Mmo's
I didn't wanna buy the mamba because of the receiver being too bulky, therefore the g700!
What I don't like is the cord to charge the mouse with, it's too stiff, but charging the mouse very fast. -
I think the Mamba is a very comfortable mouse for medium to large hands. It fits nicely and doesn't cause any strain. The Mamba does have the large dock to deal with so keep that in mind. I personally use the logitech G9 and find it to be the best for my needs. It is also quite comfortable to me when using the "wide" grip and although it isn't wireless, it is still pretty light and maneuverable. Also, being able to change the LED colors on the G9 to match my Alienware is a nice touch indeed.

I've been using the Logitech G5 Laser. I will never use anything else.
It comes with a weight slot on the bottom to add some weight. Pretty cool -

Got the R.A.T. 7 yesterday and I can say it is a very good mouse, the only one I've used that compares to the precision and acuracy of my G9x I had so I can definitely recommend it. The Logitech G9x is another great performer. I used the Razer Mamba for a few months and honestly while it's not a horrible mouse it's very inaccurate at higher dpi settings especially while on wireless mode when compared to other mice. I should have the g700 this next week to see if someone made a truly acurate and precise wireless mouse finally but until then in my opinion there are NO mice that are wireless that have good acuracy and precision IMO.

I have been using the Razer Deathadder since 2007 .First one was 1800dpi & current deathadder is 3500dpi the sensor is infrared which in my opinion is far superior to lazer sensor's.Deathadder is for me a comfortable mouse to use nicely sized,Reasonably priced.Hardwired for gaming, i would not go near a wireless mouse .

Recently I bought 2 gaming mice:
The logitech g500: its impossible to click the scrolling wheel decently (the g5 had the same problem btw). If you want to throw a nade, most of the time you will throw it immediatly instead of being able to hold it for a few seconds.
If the scrolling wheel would work it would be a perfect mouse, but since the wheel is total junk (sry for the language but it is really junk) I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
The razer imperator: is a great mouse imo. Eventhough it has 100dpi less than the logitech g500, it still seems to be faster.
The only downside is the glossy finish on the sides, which was something I had to get used to (your thumb will stick to it like glue, and make it more difficult to slide your finger to other positions). If the sides would be finished with matt rubber/plastic like the rest of the mouse, it would be perfect. -
+1 for G700
-
Logitech G5. Don't waste time with a wireless mouse if you are gaming.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I like my Razer Lachesis
-
Naga all the way. The keypad really helps in situations that you have to switch weapons quickly in BC2.
-
I quite like my Alienware TactX mouse.

My last three mice were all Logitech G5. I just recently ordered a G9 off Newegg and anxiously await its arrival. I hate wireless due to the need for recharging and the battery possibly going dead at the worse possible time...
Nothing worse than having someone wipe a raid cause their wireless mouse battery died when they forgot to recharge it and couldn't move on a boss fight. -
using RAT 7 atm, i have it for almost 2 months been great, i highly recommend it for fps games. the precision aim button is awesome once you get used to it.

mamba

Check out the orochi. It's really small and uses blue tooth. However I haven't really seen any lag at all with it. If you can get used to the size, it's not a bad set up. I am mobile with my gaming so as much as the m17x weights I try to cut down on weight as much as I can.
I mat go buy the m700 after reading this thread though. -
I absolutely hated all of the Razers that I tried. None of them felt like they had any mass to them and were far too "twitchy".
I really like my Sidewinder X8. The feel is great and it is quite precise and responsive. My only complaint is that it eats batteries up very quickly. I always keep a recharged spare on hand for that reason. In terms of performance when wireless - it works fine wireless. It also works wired (simple magnetic cord attachment), but I have no trouble using it wirelessly, so no need to have yet another cord criss-crossing my desk.
EDIT: Also regarding the concern about the battery dying mid-raid... the X8 will start blinking to let you know the battery will need replacement. It does this well in advance of any shut-offs.... I have played a few hours without replacing the battery once it starts complaining. -
Using Logitech 610 and MX Revolution. Ergonomically fits me well. The 610 will run on one battery so if you're running low, pop one in while you recharge either 1 or 2 of the batteries. The Revolution is nice for the middle wheel once you get use to it. The optional buttons for macros is nice too if you make use of them. However, I hate running out of battery on it if I forget to put it back on the recharger. The mouse is nice, just the charging blows, as with many Logitech mouse with similar tech.
In regards to FPS games, I have absolutely no clue since I don't play themBut for ergonomics, customization and comfort you can't go wrong. As with any mouse, try before you buy!

Stay away from RAZER MAMBA !
I owned logitech G7 wireless, G9 wire and razer Mamba wireless dual.
wireless G7 died on me !, G9 is working great. But the mamba is crappy!
My first Mamba had problem with talking my M17x r2 !
Exchanged for another one ,.....same problem! does not matter what i do like updated firmware, reinstall OS.
Maybe i m just a noob for not know how to fix my Mamba !!!!
read this if you care : http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...m17x-r2-razer-mamba-problems.html#post6430619
I am looking at logitech G700 at the moment and trying to wait for price dropped a little, hope it's a good wireless/wire mouse.
Cheers -
Side note: I love the discontinued Logitech 610's so much that I ordered a bunch as backup. Battery life is really good, runs on 1 battery as I stated until you find more batteriesand ergonomics fits me extremely well. I have 1 for each of my 3 laptops, 2 desktops, several at work, and still more in boxes in case any of mine breaks...which none has

For $143.00 is the cheapest in Australia .

I use the orochi... its small... but once you get used to it its pretty nice... being a blutooth mouse I was a little sceptical initially but it works flawlessly.. when wired its awesome... tracks on mostly any surface other than glass or any other highly glossy surface... also have the g9 which has some problem with tracking on any other surface other than a mousepad...

when using a mouse (I like game controllers more) I use a Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical
( http://www.ergoware.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/logitech-2.jpg)
it has 10 buttons, all can be changed. it is light, and easy to use. it is precise as all hell, and smooth! -
I've got the Logitech G700 and it's an awesome mouse. Run it wireless with the included nano receiver or plug it in with the included USB cord. It fits comfortably into my hand and doesn't give me cramps after prolonged use (no other mouse has been comfortable since the old Logitech iFeel MouseMan) and all the additional programmable buttons are located perfectly. With other gaming mice it's awkward to access many of the buttons but the G700 feels natural.
Before you buy, I suggest to go into a store and lay your hands on various models to see which one feels most comfortable to you and then compare the functions and features and see what works best. -
I got a Razer mambo as it came in a package deal with laptop and is first wireless I have ever had and am very pleased with it and came with a WOW wireless headset and I am sold on both of them just glad they came with the laptop and didnt have to buy seperate
-
I really like the razer imperator i bought a few months back.
-
I have a Razer orochi. Dual wire / wireless. It is half the price of the mamba and i think it is a sweet mouse. I Also played with the R.A.T 9 and that was a lovely mouse
-
I also have a G700 and it is amazing. The main issues that people talk about as cons aren't really negatives at all. The battery will last for hours of gameplay without charging. The included cord is very stiff, but you can always buy a more flexible microusb cord.
It uses nimh AA's, so you can always just buy more and a wall charger if you never want to be without wireless capability; when the battery runs out switch it out for a fresh cell and charge the depleted one.
As far as lag goes there is absolutely none of any kind. I previously had an MX620 (and an MX 610 before that), and they had annoying power saving features that resulted in small movements not being recognized after the mosue was not moved for a short period of time, this has none of those problems (the power saving settings are adjustable as well).
The texture on the sides is very grippy, and the thumb rest is very useful, so my thumb doesn't rub on the desk like with my MX620.
The feet of the mouse are very smooth and user replaceable as well.
It is a very expensive mouse, but I would say that it is definitely worth it if you use your computer a lot; the macro capabilities are very useful in both games and more general computer use. -
I have used the G7, G500, G700 and Razer Mamba. I sent the G700 back and went with the Mamba. The very best I have used so far.
-
Razer Deathadder is awesome too!
-
My Mamba works flawlessly and is by far the best mouse I've owned. The other great thing about the mamba is that it can easily be converted to a wired mouse should the battery charge run out (haven't had this problem yet, but nice to know it's there).
-
I'm using the Alienware TactX and I've had no issues - you can also change the light configurations through command centre so it fits in nicely with the rest of the system.
-
-
I actually love the feel of the G9, but working with wires in cafes and coffee shops is a pain.
PS...The G930's pair up with the G700 quite well for an awesome wireless experience! -
Razer Mamba - Was nice and still have it but could not get use to the different position you hold the mouse and for FPS games could not get my finger to move fast enough in the laydown position.
Micro Sidewinder - Way to big, the buttons were to hard to press and not fast enough for FPS(for me) I really hated this mouse and sent it back within a day.
FPS Gun - Worst investment ever, great thought but when playing fps games and trying to click the trigger fast enough (so you dont spray) would always move the mouse around and could not stay on target, basically was useless other then no carple!
RAT 7 - I was so eager to get this, everyday checking the mail, thought this would be the most amazing thing I have ever used, especially with all its customization. Unfortunately, it was very uncomfortable no matter what position I tired, the tracking was awful, and couldnt make minute mouse direction changes no matter what, the polling is just not that good. The zoom control button was also useless and found it being pressed by accident. Again I rate this as much as the FPS gun..dont buy it! (For FPS)
G5/G9 - Probably the 2 best mice out there, I think I even prefer the G5 over the G9 but the G9 is ust a bit better for FPS, it is so accurate and customizable, but how precise it is is unbeatable!!! Go with either of these 2!! -
I love my Steelseries Xai. The shape is almost the same as the old Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, and is extremely comfy. It's also ambidextrous, which is a godsend if you need to use the mouse in your left hand. The weight is good (mid-heavy), and the balance is excellent.
The mouse can be customised well, including such things as jitter correction and movement smoothing. All settings are stored in the mouse, so you can just plug it in to any computer and go. Most of the settings (except button macros) can be changed on the mouse itself, using a small OLED screen on the bottom.
It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's perfect for my needs. -
The G700 also has a small slot for the receiver inside the battery compartment if you don't want to leave it in your laptop for transport (although it doesn't stick out very much at all).

Ok so an update on my recommendation of a mouse. Previous favorite was the G9x as it was customizable and more acurate/precise than any mouse I had ever used, the R.A.T. 7 I was using was very close to it and even more customizable. I got the G700 today(pays to have friends that are Logitech account reps
) and I have to say it's the best mouse I've ever used, it hands down beats the snot out of the Mamba in wireless mode, keeps up with the G9x on precision/acuracy, and has more buttons/features than any of them. The only complaint I had was the fact that the weight is a bit light for my taste and it doesn't have changable weights but I solved that by sticking a few weights in the battery slot from my G9x! Can't go wrong with any of the 3 though.
-
Wireless: Logitech G700
Wired: Logitech G9X or Alienware TactX. (which is almost the same) -
My final choices is G700 or Cyborg RAT 7
-
IF you can, I'd suggest getting both and just returning the one you don't like. Places like Microcenter (if you have one nearby) have generous return policies (which I don't recommend abusing).
-
See my post a page or so back, I have tried them all! -
I got my GX9 I ordered and I must say for FPS games I like it better than my G5.
Still getting use to the shape but overall liking it, except the left/right clicking are a little loud... But my G5 was a couple years old and worn in. -
the razer mamba is one of the best wireless mouse ive had to date! and it looks cool

I've had a Logitech MX518 for a few years now and i love it. They are relatively cheap also, like 40 dollars. Does up to 1800 DPI.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104178
has 8 buttons. -
At the end of the day its up to the users preference, I've never used a logitech gaming mouse, but I have tryed the Microsoft x3, Microsoft x6, Razer Deathader, Razer Naga and Nazer Mamba.
Of these I prefered the Razer mice as for me they were a bit more comfortable (Ergonomic), and felt better and where smoother.
The Mamba (Currently Using) is really nice to used wirelessly, but for a note book the wireless receiver is really big!, for a desktop not so bad. And I've noticed that I need to turn it off and on before I boot up my machine or one its running, as some times it is not recognized.
But since I turn it off every time I shutdown now, I don't get this problem any more.
But for Stratagy Games the Naga is pretty nise, since it has the number pad keys on the side and its easier to call your troops to battle.
Gaming Mouse Suggestions???
