I'm really interested in getting a 27 inch Dell Ultrasharp ( http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=224-8284). My concern is the resolution. Its 2560 x 1440. If I lower the resolution then I won't be getting the full potential of the monitor, but if I leave it @ native then I'm concerned my gaming performance will falter. What should I do? What is the best way to deal with something like that? Should I not get the monitor? If I decrease the res from 2560 x 1440 to 1920x1200 will it look fuzzy / distorted? If I have the monitor's res @ 2560 x 1440 and I put my gaming res to 1920 x 1200, won't it look odd? I really want this monitor, but I don't want to lose gaming performance as a compromise.

The only way to get total sharpness of any LCD is to run it on the native resolution because its a dot by dot pixel match. If you alter the resolution it has to double up the pixels etc. This will create a image that is not as crisp as native. I wouldnt go so far as to say its fuzzy, but a non native resolution is technically fuzzier then a native rez. This is a hardware limit that can not be corrected by software.
So I would suggest getting a LCD that can run at a resolution that you card can push. The only other way to lower the FPS would be to lower the effects and cool stuff.
I hope this helps. -
Thanks - I appreciate that. I run SC2 really well on Ultra @ 1920x1200. I really don't want to reduce it. I think I'll just have to stick to getting a monitor with 1920x1200 res. That 27 inch is really sweet though. Ack!!

Dont worry about it. Think of it like having a 1080p HDTV. Bluray looks the best but if you watch normal HD channels on tv then it plays at 720p. Still looks good, just not as good. Wont be fuzzy. Dont think too much into it!
Gaming performance @ super high resolutions? Lowering res on monitors to increase fps?
