Do you guys know if SATA 3, 6gb/s controller SSDs are fully compatible with the R3?
Was going to wait for the Intel Gen 3 SSDs, but since we still do not have a release date yet, I am leaning towards getting the Crucial C300.

See page 110 in the specifications of the owner's manual listed here:

I say this because some of the information seems confusing (e.g. 1 SSD) -
Isn't the controller in the R3 only a SATA 2 3.0gb? If that's the case i'm not sure the crucial would be the best choice looking at the specs. I was looking at possibly picking up an OCZ vertex 2 with read/write of 285/275.

^^Ninja'ed
It say's SATA 3 in the manual. -
From page 110 of the manual
Hard drive
two 2.5 inch SATA 2.0 (3Gb/s) OR SATA 3.0 (6Gb/s) hard drives
It is the OR part which threw me off, this is why I wanted confirmation for current R3 owners. -

Sata 3 is 6 Gbps interesting
-
SATA 1 is 1.5 Gbps, SATA 2 is 3 Gbps, and SATA 3 is 6 Gbps
Dont have a clue what the limits are to eSATA on this machine or even in general. And if it did take the higher speeds, does it require a special cable? -

Answering my own confusion on the R3 part:
Top of specification section it says:
Computer Model
Alienware M17x-R3 -

Glad I held off on buying one just yet. I'll probably wait for a better selection of SATA 3. The specs listed for the crucial drives seem to indicate low write speeds compared to some of the SATA 2 drives
-
Does that mean that my R2 is sata 3?
