I have this same issue, can't get it back to normal, really irritating me, what did you do?
-
Did you set the workaround install to true in installmanger.cfg ?
-
i have tried everything, this is pretty messed up, nothings working
-
Well, I figured it out myself but for some reason 10.6 to 10.7 is like a 5 second install and doesn't even prompt for rebooting or anything, and drivers still show 10.6. I see some others may be having this problem, too, will keep lurking for more answers.
-
hey stat i managed to install the dell drivers finally, then erased them and came back to 10.7 but the moderate setting tweak is not working anymore, can you please elaborate.
-
The OpenGL driver is still bugged for 4870 cards on both the WHQL and this version of Catalyst 10.7, thus one has to use the old atioglxx.dll from Catalyst 10.4 or earlier for some OpenGL games and programs.
And the installer on both the WHQL mobility and this version of Catalyst 10.7 crashes on my crossfire 4870s, even with Workaround set to true. Installing the driver manually via device manager works fine. -
Finally!! I figured it out so i will outline the exact steps for anyone who wants to give it a go
- Enter BIOS and enable USB to allow system wake up
- Uninstalled Dell Drivers from Catalyst Control Panel (custom uninstall)
- Reboot
- Used Driver Sweeper to clean out all remaining ati files
- Reboot
- Used CC Cleaner to Clean out remaining Registry ati items
- Reboot
- Installed WHQL 10.7 Mobility Drivers from ati's website
- Reboot
- Went to power icon in windows -> More power settings -> Change Plan settings for Balanced -> Change advanced power settings -> PCI Express -> Changed both to Moderate Power Savings
Now all i have to do it click balanced settings and computer will sleep/wake perfectly, i have also attached shorcuts for high performance mode and balanced mode which you can pin to your task bar or put on your desktop to switch quickly. When you want to game press high performance, when you want your m17x to sleep quickly hit the balanced icon and you can sleep!
DO NOT TRY THIS WITH AC ADAPTER UNPLUGGED, i made that mistake and it took me a long time to fix it.Attached Files:

At least you shorted it out
-
Hmm.
I just installed the new drivers.
Tried to run NWN2 in fullscreen and... weird flickers. Not standard horizontal flicker but more like streaks of the first row of pixelsin the screen, stretched all the way down.
Occasionally the game menu shows between the streaks.
Sadly, nwn2 is an older game so probbaly wont get fixed, but its kinda a deal breaker for me.
-Ash -
The only problem i have with the new 10.7 drivers, is that i can't turn the computer off. I have to hardboot it when it goes to black screen. But everything else works perfect !
-
Small update: Its happening in all my games
WTH!
-Ash -
Don't have that issue, all games are fine here. Might want to try a thorough driver cleaning. -
Yeah, just did another driver clean.
Same issue.
That kinda blows.
Gonna try rivatuner trick next.
-Ash
EDIT:
Did another driver clean and rivatuner OC - and still the same issue.
I have a feeling it could be the crossfire profiles, as it doesnt happen with crossfire off.
-Ash -
Folks,
Just to remind you, do NOT intall them on top of your old drivers. Follow the instructions on this page:
1)
Uninstall Guide
2)
Restart
3)
Install guide
Good Luck -
Wohoo im going to give it a try
-
hopefully you can get it working vaccine, just make sure you don't try to make your computer sleep on battery, causes big problems
-
Joker if you don't mind, can you post the method i wrote up on the previous page on the first page, should help anyone stuck in the same situation i was.
-
sure mines plugged in 24x7 not a problem

Just out of interest, does that uninstallation procedure work for dell stock drivers? do you need to do anything after uninstall PRIOR to reinstall??
Also, do you have to do this from safe mode?
If i do this, i would like a "dead accurate" process as i (and maybe others) am not familiar with doing this like some of you guys! - want to get it right and not mess things up!
-
Stevie,
I had the dell drivers.
I then uninstalled them in windows normal mode. Then I restarted. The screen resolution will be very low. Then just install the drivers normally as in the guide and restart. Then you will have a great working machine.
To Joker, Should I download the 10.7 drivers with WHQL because I currently have the ones without it.
Thanks -
Sure once more people test it out and say whether or not it works for them I will. Personally for me it didn't though.
No, they're the same driver except the non-WHQL one has a newer CCC + OpenGL 2.0 -
How are your guys frame rates in games with the new drivers? Any improvments?
-
Bingo Diesel , It Sleeps n Resumes perfectly
Hurray finally some success!!!
I noted it this time , the previous time when it would hault the Num lock indicator and the touch keys wont go off. But this time everything went off smoothly and resumed back
Thanks a lot.
-
Same problem here
-
Meh, I tried doing it Diesels way but it said it couldn't find the driver or whatever so going back to Dell drivers
-
Conclusion , Im Going To Stop Experimenting On This.
Diesels Method Worked Under The Following Settings:-
A/c Adapter PluggedIn :-
PowerPlay :- Turned Off.
Turn off Display / Sleep everything worked.
PowerPlay :- Truned On
Turn off Display / Sleep would resume to a black screen .
A/c Adapter PluggedOut :-
System would boot to a BSOD . Only way out is uninstalling the drivers via safe mode from the Device Manager and do a complete reinstall.
Im happy with the PowerCordIn its doing good

I hope 10.5's work for SCII.. otherwise I'll definitely be putting up with this nonsense <_<

Simple question, i know these new 10.7 seem to casue people alot of problems with sleep etc....is that just on battery? - does the laptop sleep ok when plugged in??
If so, and they fix the "wavy line" issue etc, they should be fine for me as my laptop is set to never sleep on both ac/battery and its plugged in more or less eveytime i use it for gaming. -
Yes Stevie... .
I don't care about battery, because mine is always on AC. C'mon, we all bought a gaming laptop, who cares about a battery in a desktop replacement device. -
steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Cool....(and true lol).
So apart from the sleep issue on battery, safe to say thats thhe only problem with these new 10.7's???
Would it be safe to say that even this problem would eventually be ironed out (doesnt seem to be too much of a problem once the find a cure for it)
I wouldnt imagine theres many of us who game on battery anyway.......if you set power to never sleep on battery that means no problems

No consolation to you, I realize, but I'm not having any problems with NWN2 (I'm currently playing it) with the new drivers. Not seeing any improvement either lol... -

Does changing the setting in powerplay make a difference at all?? this is speculatory on my behalf as i havent tried doing a thing but am reading with interest.
Noticed in powerplay it can either be enable or not but performance on batt can be changed to maximise performance....
If both of these are set to performance, does that do anything or am i being a complete noob. LOL
-
When you guys are using Driversweeper are you using the default settings, or adding some custom settings? If custom could someone please list the extra files needed to fully remove the ATI drivers.
-
Mines booting up to a BSOD on battery . So i dont think sleep is the only issue with the 10.7s . But everything is okay on Power so why worry
I selected the ATI drivers and hit analyze then clean. -
lordqarlyn Global Biz Consultant
guys, I must ask this. Is this the normal way to update ATI drivers? Because in my experience with Nvidia, driver updates were a simple straightforward process. None of this removal of old drivers, using 3rd party utilities, replacing VBIOS's, at least in my own experience.
I'm beginning to think my stepdaughter's getting the better machine... -
It was the same with Nvidia drivers at least on the M17X. I remember when I had the 280M SLI, I could only install the Nvidia driver with the modified version of it.
Now remember that you can always use Dell's video driver which is a very straightforward process.
Click install and that's it. -
lordqarlyn Global Biz Consultant
No. I've done five driver updates on my M17x using nNvidia - not Dell - drivers. All I needed to do was doubleclick the install program and walk away. Drivers updated, gaming performance improved. -
Also remember that the people with the 4870 are not experiencing such issue. It is very specific to the 5870 CF.
-
i just returned home after working for 13 hours straight.
i got dual 4870s. should i update to 10.7 from official dell drivers? -
If it ain't broke...
-
so if it is working properly i should avoid huh?
-
Just got 10.7 installed using the workaround method outlined on the Wiki (as well as CC cleaner/Driver Sweeper) all from 10.5 Dell Driver.
Huge improvement. I can now run Stacraft II using Ultra settings without any lag. Whereas the Dell drivers lagged like crazy. I haven't tested anythign else yet but I felt it was worthwhile to post about how well it plays SC2
*update
BSOD on boot (while on battery power) / Lockup on suspend. So guess i'm stuck on AC power for now. -
sorry,
but on 10.7 the tool AMD GPU Clock Tool don't o.c. the second 5870 ...?
I installed the different 10.7, all but 2 ok strange things, having put the drivers for mobility cards I am recognized two 5800 series ..
Second, with tools gpu clock tool can no longer 'work on the second tab.
Ale the modified method of the INF also gave me a little problem. ie, a card I have installed the 5870 and 5800 the second series, I noticed that the problem is the signature of the driver, forcing the driver does not accept -
I am still wondering when an AW tech guy will have the decency to stop by and tell us they are on top of the issues for a PC we paid $3000.00 or more for...
-
They're owned by Dell, Chris comes by every 4th full moon, but I suspect notebookreview.com is just not a big enough forum to warrant a look-see. Or they just don't care.. They used to have 'community outreach' agents that trolled forums, haven't seen one in a very long time anywhere however. I'm sure it's one of those cost cutting things during a big recession.

steviejones133 Notebook Nobel Laureate
sure i saw one.......on my thread on page 9 ... eranewalia....was that a AW guy?...see here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/494454-power-adaptor-not-recognized-9.html
-
It's erawneila (alienware in reverse
) and yes, he's an AW guy.
-
bah, just bought and downloaded starcraft II and it's doing the bugged invisible units thing reported in beta. The solution per Blizzard is to update drivers. BUT dell hasnt released them. Anyone know if this 10.7 fixes the SC2 issues?
-
I just installed 10.7 and restarted my computer. My screen is alot darker now. Anyone has gotten this issue?
-
ATI hinted the primary reason they were releasing the new update on the day SC2 releases was to address the invisible units problem. 10.7 will fix it if I'm not mistaken.
Get your Catalyst 10.7 (non-WHQL) here
