i think you're supposed to see them as HD 5800 series in device manager.
-
-
did you completely uninstall the previous ATI drivers or did you install over them?
-
The only ATI driver i could install properly was the one from dells homepage -
did you do the workaround?
-
-
Here's what I did....
Try what I did to get from 10.5 dell to 10.7 ati:
1: Download the BETA drivers first (more features, better) and start the install process - when you see the install wizard, cancel it.
2: Go to device manager and right click one of your 5870's, then select "remove". It will prompt to remove device drivers as well - do so.
2a: Do the same to the remaining device. Your screen will now be ugly, but push on.
3: Go to control panel and select the ATI install manager, click change, then select "express uninstall ALL ati software".
4: Reboot when prompted, or reboot even if not prompted and everything is done.
5: Run driver sweeper, select ati, select anaylse and clean, select clean, reboot.
6: Go to the C:\atiwhateverthenameis folder that got created when you cancelled the 10.7 driver, go to the config folder, and do the "workaroundinstall=true" thing.
7: Install as per normal and reboot.
8: Go into safe mode, use Device Manager to install then reboot.
9: Go into the folder C: AMD/ then click on Setup and let it install then when it's done, activate XF then reboot.
I used most of what Ash said he did and this is what worked for me -
Here is the work around from AW Wiki
Sometimes when installing the newest Catalyst drivers found on AMD's website, users encounter a problem where the ATi installer does not recognize the display driver. A very simple workaround is to first run the Catalyst installer, let it extract to C:\ATi and then cancel the installation. Next, navigate to the C:\ATi\Support\XXX Mobility Driver\Config folder and open the file called "InstallManager.cfg" with Notepad. One of the lines says the following: "WorkaroundInstall=false", change it to "WorkaroundInstall=true". Then run the setup file in the parent ATi directory and it should now detect the display driver and install fine. -
i have verison 6.298.2.0000 of the driver and it says ddi-version: 10.1 i dont know if it will work to do what you said or if i have to do something else.
-
Try what I did, I tried the other ways to install them and they didn't work. Try the betas
-
Thanks -
Do the CF at the end. Ahh, skip number 7, sorry and just go to number 8. Go to the control panel then device manager then install with looking for the drivers manually *sp*. After that, restart the computer then go to the AMD folder and click on SETUP and it will install the rest, reboot then do the XF. Try that and see how it works, I was getting frustrated but got it to work

I installed the beta driver. Is AMD GPU clock tool not working also with 4870's crossfire? I used furmark along with AMD GPU clock and can set only one card while the other stays at default settings. Anyone knows a solution please?
-
Just for reference when you uninstall and install CCC, use custom and it will look at what is installed already and show you the versions that will be installed/uninstalled before it runs. This can save you some time because you can see if the right versions are going to install before hand and if not you can hit cancel.
-
honestly i have to say this is really ridiculous this set up has been out for a very long time and there are still bugs this big in it.
-
Put me on the can not install list.
My M17x shipped with 10.6 drivers.
I have tried every install workaround found in this thread.
Dell needs to get their act together.
This is what GPU-Z tells me about my graphics cards.Attached Files:

Joker does your rivatuner batch file for battery use fix the sleep issue?
-
still had to install the 10.7 drivers with the 'workaround = true' setting.
but this time i AM able to access CCC.
now trying the CrossFire on BFBC2...
edit: Yes, works like a charm. -
One thing I notice with these drivers is that my games from Steam crash about an hour into playing them

Moved over from thread that was closed by mod BatBoy and posted here per his request:
Hello, it's been a while since I have used these forums. As expected, I have Star Craft 2 installed on my M17x R2 with dual 4078HD cards.
After installing, I got a Star Craft 2 updater prompt stating that it was detecting an incompatible video card. I also read some articles online stating that you would need the 10.7 drivers to be able to play StarCraft 2 and enable something like AA or AF.
Naturally I downloaded the drivers from ATI.com and run the install. Nothing happens, I get an error asking me to check the log file and the log file gives useless information.
Did a quick search here on Notebookreview forums and found info about installing reference drivers on mobility cards. I tried using mobility modder first, that did not work. I still have 8.6 drivers AND CCC icon does not show up ANYWHERE.
I checked program files and my system tray and the icon is not there so I have no way of knowing if I am using Xfire or not now.
I did some more researching and found out about Driver Sweeper. This seemed to make it easier in making sure the driver was completely uninstalled, however when I ran the 10.7 install file, same thing. No CCC and only 8.6 drivers.
Is there something more I need to do to get these 10.7 drivers installed on my M17X R2?
Gonna shout out to Joker. What's up man. Good to know you are still active here. Yeah, yeah, I know, should have sold this one for the 5870HD M17x, but AWD Turbo can change a lot of things. lol -
I'm having similar issues installed 10.7 as well. Can someone who has successfully installed it on the R2 (preferably played some stable SC2 with it too maybe) drop some knowledge on the complete and proper way to install these drivers?
Also is the update worth it? I'm on the Dell drivers still but I don't know if I'll even use AA or AF. I'm pretty competitive in SC2 so I'm more interested in a general performance increase over things like AA or AF. -
erawneila???
Whats the latest from the your side of this debacle? -
I'm happy to report that at least at face value, crossfire now works in napoleon total war without having to disable Catalyst AI with the 10.7 Crossfire profiles, and without having to sacrifice long load times. The performance didn't seem that great but I'll confirm that with fraps or something.
-
Quick question guys. I just disabled cross-fire, and now typing on the forums I get a quick screen flicker ever few key strokes. Like every two or three. Anyone else seeing this?
I originally disabled corssfire because when watching a movie on my projector, the center of the screen looks like it's tearing. Just the middle from left to right. Kinda odd. -
Hmm, odd, now it's not doing it. Guess it was just a glitch.
-
-
It was a struggle, but since this is about the only game i play... I will stick to these drvers for now... -
I would recommend not using the SC2 beta drivers if you're not having any major issues with your games or laptop. I installed them last night (even though the game was running great), and since then there is now choppiness in games, in the cinamatics, and even lingering flickering when I drop back to desktop.
I should have known better, hopefully I can figure out what I was using before. -
The installer pretty much quits after that.
I am going to try to install 10.7 again.
Edit
I got the 10.7a Hotfix drivers to install using the "workaround=true" method.
sleep mode stopped working...
computer locked up when plugging in the ac adapter...
Catalyst Control Center would not start.
Blue screens on restart...
What a mess!!!
I reinstalled the current Dell driver.Attached Files:

Has anybody tried the Catalyst 10.7a hotfix (it comes with Starcraft II fixes for FSAA etc.) with Mobility Radeon 5870s?
For the record, they appear to be working well on my M17x with Mobility Radeon 4870s in crossfire and my desktop 5970 4GB. -
Really? These drivers completely hosed my computer, and I have the 4870s as well. Have you played through the entire campaign yet? Certain cut scenes will cut out the HDMI signal (I play on my TV). This will also happen during gameplay as well, though not as frequent. Before I had installed the drivers, I played through the entire campaign on my same setup without any problems. -
Im running the 10.7a drivers at the moment with CF hd5870m.
FSAA ftw.
My only trepidition is that if dell ARE making new drivers for us (which I doubt) then they will not use the fixes in the 10.7a hotfix as its so new.
So we will get dell drivers, sure, just without FSAA in sc2.
I have a question though - for people that DONT have the 10.7a, could you please COPY and RENAME your starcraft2.exe to something like "fsaatest.exe" and run it, and see if you can force AA.
Could be a profile issue rather than a core driver issue.

Anyhow, some people say it works when using the compatibility profile of Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway with older drivers and some say it doesn't. Might depend on the driver and video card used, too. -

So far I have been running everything on ultra on campaign and multi player with no issue. (well except all the fans being on high and the laptop sounding like it is about to take off. lol) The graphics look sweet and I haven t experienced any chopping from FPS drops. I am also always connected to my external Samsung XL2370 via HDMI.
For now I think I am going to stay where I am at until all these issues are addressed. I would love the AA fix as I think it would improve the visual quite a bit but can do without it for now. -
did anyone get AMD GPU clock tool to work with the 10.7 betas? I seem able to clock one of the cards. the second one stays at stock speeds. i have 4870 crossfire.
Get your Catalyst 10.7 (non-WHQL) here
