Hey guys, after years of wanting a Alienware I finally grew the balls and decided to buy one. So, I have a Samsung 830 128GB and 16GB of ram (corsair vengeance) and I was planning on adding it as soon as I get as well as windows 8. I know how to add the SSD and ram, but how do I do the restore? If I'm right I heard it comes with restore disks making a lot easier and how do I get windows 8 on it? Thanks guys.

Thank you, that was very informative.

Sorry for being such a noob, but I'm guessing I need to go https://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-US/Registration there and buy it. Once I buy it I'm guessing I have to download it onto a USB right?

Also, what if I was just planning on using the alienrespawn? It seems so easy that way.

Edit: Never mind, it seems I have to wait till October 26 in order to buy it (Pro Edition) Should I just install win7 for now and wait till then?

You can burn Windows 8 into a DVD instead of a USB drive, but in the mean time your Alienware ought to ship with Windows 7. Don't worry - when you receive Windows 8, as long as you have Windows 7 Premium or Pro, you can 'upgrade' to Windows 8 with little fuss, although you might have driver concerns.

I would recommend you wait a bit longer than immediately installing Windows 8 as to allow the drivers to mature for the new OS, as most of the drivers in the Alienware lineup aren't quite ready for it.

Also make sure you get the correct specifications. Full hd 1920x1080p screen is a must, get the i7 3610qm if you just do gaming + browsing + general use. If you use your laptop for extremely cpu intensive processing then get 3720qm but it isn't needed if you don't.

Gpu - get the 7970m. You have to get either the 7970m or the gtx 680m. They're equally as powerful but the 7970m is half the price and gets better fps in quite a few games - like bf3 and crysis 2.

Get the Killer wireless networking card

Warranty is a good idea, but it depends on your budget...

So just make sure you get a full hd screen 1920x1080p and a 7970m graphics card.

    Have fun!

He did say "getting Alienware m17x r4". This is implying that he might be in the process of buying one. Just trying to make sure nobody chooses any specs they might regret :)

I had already configured i7 3610, kill WiFi card, bluray, 7970m, accidental coverage as well should get here tomorrow :) it says today in Dell and tomorrow in fedex though:/

Okay, so I'm just going to to do the Alienwarespawn and use it on my new SSD so I won't have a hard time. Sounds good?
