Just as a discalimer, everyone's tastes are different. This is just for getting full and deep sound without it sounding like it's been passed through a filter. No EQ tweaks either as you can never get the right one for everything.

I have my IDT Waves set to this:

This gives good bass and a a wider stereo field. Sounds much better than without it.

If the volume isn't enough, go to Sound in the Control Panel, right click Speakers/Headphones and go to Properties. In the Enhancements tab, ensure that everything else is unchecked and only check Loudness Equalization. In settings drag the slider to the shortest release time.

In the advanced tab, change the format to 24 bit 48000Khz.

That's it. For me these are great settings and make movies and music sound great. I do not for a second deem this to be the greatest for everyone but it is a good place to start.

The audio cuts out for a split second when you hit apply as it resamples. I've had it on 24bit for a few days now. No problems.

You wouldnt happen to know where to get the idt control panel installer? Mine wont start, i might have uninstalled it, or it could be a residual effect from the cloning/reinstall i had to do

seems like I can't turn the volume up all the way in certain songs or it turns to crap, overloading the speakers perhaps? :(

Well, that's certainly possible with overloaded bass, but pulling back a little on the bass slider should solve that, but it shouldn't cause any damage given the low power driving the speakers.

@Toledano -- I'm not fussing, my friend, the idea just struck me as odd. :)

Well think about it, if you push bass and you play bassy songs, your trying to force your speakers to oscilate to that frequency (20hz-20khz audio range for instance), so ofcourse its going to try create the vibrations for the lower band (Which for tiny drivers, would be a massive amount of vibration, but not big enough to produce proper bass!) , if you boast these frequencies and your trying to play mids and highs (Much faster frequency oscilation) you will find that you get a massive distortion margine.

I think the best thing to do with the alienwares speakers are to leave on default settings, make sure your speakers have seen a decent amount of usage, ballance the waves out so you get a good response from the speakers so its nice and ballanced then fine tune the wave settings with a custom equaliser. On my MSI GT725/Advent 6555, after some heavy equaliser tweaking alone (No other settings), i managed to get the 5.1 (Stereo configuration) subwoofer on the bottom doing some crazy things.

The alienware provides a good range of sound across the board but i dont think forcing BASS out the small Klipsch drivers is the way to go :p its only a laptop remember! but a decent ballance will reward you greatly in terms of quality and loudness!

    - Cata

Its hard to explain sound drivers, i haven't got the best knowledge, but i do know you will cause distortion from trying to pack the sound system up with bass. :)

^^Very good point. I never have my speakers that loud, loudest I go is probably 40% so I'm not so weary about blowing my speakers out and plus, the settings I've posted are not about boosting bass, it's about enhancing it, allowing it to show through the speakers. If I wanted to boost bass, which I don't, I'd do it though the EQ. Personally I keep that @flat.

Yep, i currently use the M17xR3 speakers at 50%, and find on default profile easily enjoy being played up to 70% and at 90% is where you can sometimes Total Harmonic Distortion(Clipping/crackling/etc) occurs, the speakers really are good, but only if set correctly, and softly is a good approach to go!

Ahh i wouldn't say you need to keep it low :p Klipsch is a good brand of audio product so i'd expect the speakers to be quite durable, try try reset and experiment with the wave system and custom equalisers, but try and start with a flat all around line so that you have a good start point!

To be honest, I recommend against tweaking the EQ as it affects all sound including windows, films, youtube, music etc. If I were you, I'd keep it flat and use the EQ of your playback software. I suggest tweaking the Waves settings instead. They aren't too intrusive (unless you tweak the treble slider).

Just bumping this thread for new users and also to ask some HDMI In users with problems. In the IDT panel, there is a slider that controls the HDMI In and by default, mine installed it as all the way muted, has anyone tried tweaking that?. Just a headsup incase no one thought of that?
