Getting a replacement fr mx17. The spes I have are 4gb mem, 280 in sli ,320 hard drive and t9800 processor. Any chance of me getting 5870 in sli .I assume I will get 4870 , What processor is equal to t9800 ?

Believe it or not you probably will get 5870's in crossfire, most sli 260's=4870's and most sli 280's=5870's. That's what the majority of replacements have been lately. As far as the cpu it's a toss up there have been people getting anywhere from an i5-540 to an i7-820qm that depends mainly on your rep and parts availability. As far as the ram and hard drive go most of the time you'll get the exact same thing. Cheers! Let us know what you get!

I just got my system replacement ordered, If you see my specs below, I had a t9600, you have a better processor, you should push for a 820QM, dont let them force you into an i5, tell them you use photoshop or some other high-end programs and need the 6-8mb cache.

The 5870 is in technical terms, "hella" faster than the 280m, however, the current drivers suck a little bit, dont expect problems...

Well I'll tell ya this, my system replacement shipped yesterday and here's the specs on the original and new system:
    Original:T9600, single GTX 260m, 4 gb 1066 ram, 1600x900 screen, single 500 gb hdd
    New-i7-820qm, single 5870, 8 gb 1333 ram, 1600x900 scree, dual 500 gb hdd's.
There's other things there I didn't mention, keep in mind my first system failed 2 months ago and I've gone through more than you could imagine since then to get it. If you get lucky and get a good rep you'll get it easy, if not you have to have a lot go wrong. Either way a core i series cpu and 5870's is quite an upgrade. Keep us updated on what you get. And if you want to see what people have been getting lately go check out the long replacement thread on the main alienware page, lot's of good info!

Well its been a long strange journey to get were I am today .Got the m1730 with 8700 sli .Dell said there would be a upgrage program but after 6 mothens of fighting with dell. Being blown off by a Indian rep named Peter Parker :D My x wife got involved. She found e-mail adress of head of xps divison .Sends e-mail and on his out of office was his phone number He offers to help first guy was a cocky sob and said best he could do was get me part at cost but never comes back to me. X send angry e-mail back to head of xps and bang apology and new laptop. Video card goes on m1730 one fan replacement and 2 mother boards and Dell tells me they will replace my system .I did not even suggest it .Latest system m17x with 280 sli and t9800 never worked right always crasing blue screan of death. This week after 2 mother boards and a optical drive.Girlfriend is in other room yelling at me about being on with dell for like 4 hours. She comes out and see me getting ready to test memory freaks out asks for the phone. Asks to speak to mamager and 10 min later I get a replacement offer. The women in my life can be very scary but great help when talking to Dell .)

That's the way the world runs! All women tend to get their way more than men! LOL My wife wouldn't get involved I just had help and know how to head hunt and pester real well! I'd still be waiting for my system to be frickin built if it wasn't for doing that.

Well Dell giveth and taketh away lol.
Orginal specs on replacement 4 gb mem ,280 sli and t9800 processor.

    was given 6gb mem 500 hd 4870 in crossfire and i7 720 with 1440 900 screen .

complained because resolution was lower .They said they would not upgrade
gpu and would only give me the upgraded screen

    I now have 4gb mem, 320 with 4870 in crossfire with i7 820 and 1900 1220
    rgb led screen

Is the new system better than the first one should i have keep quite or was it a good thing to complain and should I now take what I was given and run.
Also how much if any faster will i-7 4870 xt combo be vs t9800 and 280 sli be
