I've searched for something similar and haven't found it, sorry if I'm repeating past questions.

Okay, I'm hopefully getting a notebook soon and I don't pretend to have any technecal knowhow, what I'd like to know is what's a good configuration for gaming without being too expensive, what would the must haves be? Future proofing isn't a problem really, I'm used to playing older games because I can't get the better components.

    Thanks in advance.

    I guess you want a cheap config for a M17x R3?

A good cheap config would be to only upgrade the gpu to 6970m (a must have, as it is really value for the money spent although you just play old games) and the screen to 1080p.

The ram and processor are already very good as stock.

Thanks, it's not that I play old games, I want to get MW3 and Skyrim ect when they come out. And yes, the m17x R3 is what I meant (presumably that's what's sold on the UK site)

Going with the base HDD and memory (RAM) would be a good idea, as Simplified pointed out, because you can get these way cheaper by yourself.

Also if you live in the UK, i suggest you send a PM to steviejones133 he can give details of a good rep in your country ;)

The thing is the GPU's offered on site are the 6870m and the 460m.

If you want the 6790m,6990m or 580m you need to order through a rep.

Thanks, I've been talking to Steve and I'm trying to get my post count up whilst getting useful information for my final choice.

So I should definitely ask for the 6970m from Steves rep then?

Well if the 6990 or the 560 is available go for them, when it comes to GPU you want the best.
And you want the 1080p screen.
For the CPU, go for stock, thats plenty good for gaming and like everyone else has said, RAM and HDD are far cheaper bought elsewhere.
