i7-620
RGB WUXGA
4870XF
4GB memory
300GB HD
$1391 shipped
Was hoping for the 5870 but none available. I can upgrade the CPU and ram if I need more horsepower for VM stuff. I sometimes run XP, Fedora and Unbuntu at the same time. Any recommendations for memory?

Newegg.com - CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 Laptop Memory Model CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9
So shocked how 8gb DDR3 for notebooks have just dropped like a rock! -
the processor is good only thing better will be 920xm which will give you higher raw speed and quad core. Look at getting a SSD really helps speed up performance especially if you are running multiple VM's. Good grab and a great price as well enjoy the system and especially the RGB breathtaking

I'd suggest ebay as you can get a decent pair for around $160 or possibly less. -
thanks!

I'm glad you finally got one. I've seen you looking for one past few days. Gratz! -
If I do consider one, what are the best options for a speedy and reliable drive? OCZ and Intel seems like the best two choices? -

$239 and coupon not working. Have a link? -

Phoenix pro 60gb $110 no rebates nothing same drive as Vertex II and 50k iops. 2 of those in a m17x raid setup would make anyone's panties wet.
Newegg.com - G.SKILL Phoenix Pro Series FM-25S2S-60GBP2 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
coupon code:
BTEYXNV22
Newegg deal is dead on 120gb phoenix pro for $198 -

Anyone have experience with this SSD?
Corsair CSSD-F120GB2-BRKT F120 Force Series Solid State Drive - 120GB, 2.5, SATA II at TigerDirect.com
$209 with rebate and code
Edit: Urgh, after some research seems the drive is not happy in lower power states. -
same drive as OCZ vertex II or G.skill phoenix pro. Sandforce controller and amazing speeds but reliability is not comparable to intel. I have a vertex II in m15x and phoenix pro in wife's macbook no issues with either and getting good speeds overall
m15x

you can get the better speed OCZ for about that price on Newegg now

Thanks.

Going to try to find a red model if possible. Can't shake the feeling of wanting one. It shouldn't matter but it lingers...urgh.

TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
There is little reason for anything above 4GB of RAM. Save that $160 and put it towards an ES 920XM or an SSD. Those are two upgrades that I guarantee to make your system scream, unlike 8GB of RAM.

I seriously cannot understand any engineer purposely releasing products with "bad" firmwares. If I or my colleagues did this we be embarrass with no end in sight. I mean we really fight/argue with CO's to not release anything that is "questionable." I even fight with my colleagues when testing fails and they don't fix the problems!
However, having said the above I understand and have experienced workplaces where management gets their way due to cost, schedule and such. Software is usually the first to go and man I really hate having to test and qualify them for release. Worst of all, I abhor signing off on the release since I'm usually the last person to do so.
I think I'll just call up frieds at Intel and get their honest opinion. At this point it's just baffles me on the SSD issues, particularly firmware. Sorry for the semi-rant.
Anyone with detail technical SSD experience/design wanna shed some light to the issues?
Got this M17x...otw
