So i got the 7970m and did all the clean installs and the never worked and now the bios wont read it or my 6990m. I just did a reformatting of windows and still the bios doesnt detect either card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.......I'm close to just ordering desktop parts and saying goodbye to this laptop.....help me change my mind back

Have you tried a battery pull?, remove the battery and hold the power button down for 30 seconds.

Yep i did everything. The last thing i did before it didnt read the dgpu was uninstall all amd using the catalyst. Then ran the pc in safe mode and used drive sweeper to erase all amd drivers. Since then it hasnt detected the discrete card. I have no cluse what to do

BIOS should still detect a discrete card in the PCIe slot, drivers or no drivers. Something's gone weird with your MB or BIOS. I'd clean out the PCIe slot and make sure all the contacts are intact & not broken.

I had the same problem on my M17x R3 with 6990M. In windows nor bios there wasn't presence of discrete videocard. So i took it apart removed videocard cleaned contacts, replasted, rebooted and woah! it was detected. Try that :)

I know it may not be a really techy answer but, have you tried [Fn]+[F7] right before installing the driver?

Try installing the Integrated graphics driver before the discrete. You can also do this to make sure you remove every single trace of your old drivers:

    1. Open the Start Menu, type “device manager” in the searchbox and press <Enter>.

    2. Click the arrow next to “Display adapters” to expand the filter.

    3. Right-click the AMD Graphics Card and select “Uninstall”.

    4. Check the “Delete the driver software for this device” box and click OK to proceed.

    5. Once the driver is uninstalled, restart your computer and repeat the process until Standard VGA adapter shows up instead of the AMD Graphics Card (this is done in order to avoid any traces from past drivers).

    6. Open the Start Menu, type “programs and features” in the searchbox and press <Enter>.

    7. Search the list of installed programs for any AMD Software and uninstall it. Restart and repeat this step until no AMD software shows up in the list.

    8. Restart your computer, at the Alienware Logo screen press <F8>.

    9. At the Advanced Boot Options, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight “Safe Mode with networking”, press <Enter>.

    10. Run driver fusion, check the box for “AMD display”, click Clean, then restart your computer.

    11. Open the Start Menu, type “regedit” in the searchbox and press <Enter>.

    12. In the “Registry Editor” go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

    13. Look for a folder named “AMD” or “ATI”, right-click to delete it.

    14. Restart your computer.

    15. Download the latest AMD driver recommended for your computer from our Support Portal.

    16. If you need assistance installing drivers, refer to our Alienware Initial Driver Installation article

Blow into the PCIe slot on the motherboard with a short quick blast of air cleaner. Don't give it the full blast from the can cause that can send the liquid out onto the contacts. You can use strong rubbing alcohol on a cuetip to clean the contacts on the cards. Just make sure to run a dry cuetip over the contacts to get rid of any residual alcohol.

Well I tried Dell and they want to charge me $249 to send my Alienware to a repair facility to be troubleshooted because I opened the laptop and changed out the GPU myself and they dont know if it is a mobo or card failure. Did i get the retard that doesnt know about us being able to modify our laptops under warranty or am I wrong here? I'm furious right now! I have a 4yr advance warranty and they are trying to charge me. I didn't pay it and ended the call. I found nothing in the Dell warranty saying anything about this. Can I get some help/advice here please!!

I really want to know why both the cards arent being read? I just dont get it.

probably the motherboard. I would call again and say nothing about trying to swap out gpu's, but that that GPU is not being detected and that you can't tell if its a mobo or a GPU issue.

You did. Get in touch with one of the Alienware reps here in the forum. They'll get you fixed up.
