If ur getting an alienware go with the best card, the 6970m. No point in getting a gaming laptop if u don't have the best gaming card in it.

Ok I know that 6970 is the best but I just dont have the funds for that card. Also on notebookcheck it shows no stats for the 6870. So does anyone know how different the 6870 and 460 are?

they should be on par. where the 460 will have an edge on the "Nvidia the way is meant to be played" titles. 6870 from my understanding is a rebadged/downclocked 5870m

You're talking about a 60-80% performance boost with a 6970M over a 460M. It's a massive difference. If you don't have the money, save up, because if you don't get an M17x with a 6970M you will regret it. It's a huge boost for a relatively small extra cost.

If you're buying a high performance gaming laptop, and you can get a much better GPU for not much more, why not?

Well I am upgrading the screen and I want a blu ray drive. I did see a refurbished m17 with 6970 16 gb of ram 2630 I7 and blu ray for about $1850. But still I don't know if I can spend that much. I also specced out a saver with a gtx560 8gb of ram blu ray and upgraded screen for $1250. I just don't know that the extra $600 is worth it or that I could even afford it.

Yea I meant sage and it was a 15" model not 17". I'd prefer a 15" but aloe ware doesn't offer those anymore.

I wanted a 15 too, my deciding factor was my military discount, for the same price I could put medium parts in the m14x, I could get an m17x almost fully upgraded...
