I've just got myself an M17x R4, obviously its got the intel HD 4000, added to that I've got myself a GTX 675M.
Issue... After I upgraded my Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro I can't seem to get any application on this machine to use the GTX 675M. It'll only ever use the intel.
I've downloaded the drivers for both the intel and nvidia from dell's support page, installed them successfully and they seem to be working fine other than not doing what they're supposed to.
I've exhausted every means I know of to try to get this issue resolved in as little time as possible, I'm leaving the country for a two month holiday in Mauritius in a few hours. Only I, in my infinite wisdom, could install a new OS the day before an international flight.
Tried calling Dell support, no luck there, my importer has yet to transfer the warranty into my name, so no official support for me until that's done.
Also tried forcing the machine to use the nvidia card when I run an application, does not work. I'm at a loss...
Please, anyone, help?

How are you monitoring if its using the GPU? Nvidia control panel -> desktop -> display GPU activity in taskbar area its called. Also try using the new BETA drivers that fixed my issues. if you install a program like GPU-Z you will see what clock speeds your GPU is running, might be stuck like mine was, a update to the BETA 310.61 drivers fixed it for me (Nvdia drivers).

Thanks for that taskbar activity tip, **GPU Activity: toaster.exe** so I guess I was wrong. Again.
Mind if I ask where you got the BETA drivers? I assume the Nvidia website. I'll head over there now and have a look-see.
*installing CPU-Z now. -
Yeah go direct to nvidia website for the latest drivers. At least you know now if there is something running on the GPU. make sure your using GPU-Z not CPU-Z. Also you dont have to install it to use which is a nice touch.

Also found the drivers on geforce.com downloading 'em now. But with my 384kb/s connection it'll take a little while.
Thanks for all the help! -
Hmmm.... Something seems very wrong here.
I run GPU-Z, works fine, gives me all the details on my intel chip, when I try to switch it over to the nvidia, GPU-Z "has stopped working".
Guess I'll wait until the Nvidia beta driver download is done and try again. -
Don't mean to triple post, but installing the BETA drivers worked. Thanks!

Me again.
The new drivers worked for a while, but now things are slow, once again.
Is it me, or are the clock speeds pretty low?
Any help would be appreciated. -
