I am having serious issues with my M17x R3 ever since I upgraded to 8.1. I posted a while ago and someone suggested to use a linked custom Catalyst version for my card which I did and everything *seemed* fine....untill my next reboot which occurred like a week or so after the installation.

When my PC rebooted, my screen was all red. After trying multiple things, I realized that the mouse was working so I understood my laptop was taking for granted I had 2 screens (which I don't). So I plugged my laptop on my TV and indeed, the desktop was there on my TV (and my laptop showed extension screen 2 all in red). So I went in my Display settings to disable the 2 screens and make my laptop one the main and only one which worked fine...except that it is refusing to let me set my laptop screen as my AMD 6990m...there's no options at all. When I have 1 screen only selected, my laptop has a max resolution of 1280 x 1024 which I believe means it is using the onboard Intel Graphics HD 3000. Hitting FN+F7 does nothing other than the popup warning (which does nothing).
If I select 2 screens, the non existent screen goes to 1920x1080 and the laptop screen stays at 1280x1024...

I have no clue what to do but I believe I am at a point where I just want to switch back to the stock Windows 7 that came with the laptop.
    So two questions:

    1) Are my issues something someone already saw and is there an easy fix without going back to Win7?

    2) If I should just go back to windows 7, what is the easiest way? I don't think I received a win7 DVD with my laptop (maybe I did, I'll go see in my box) but I think there's an on board partition that would allow me to simply revert back?

    Thanks

I only got the red screen after crashing in the bf4 beta. I personally just disabled the intergrated graphics and just run soley on the 6990m. If you do that you shouldn't have the compatibility issues you seem to be having.

Pressing FN+F7 should do that. I would recommend you to uninstall the video drivers and reinstall them.

    Luis,
When I press FN+F7, I get the Yes/No popup but clicking yes does absolutely nothing.

I tried uninstalling and re installing all video drivers using the custom CCC but this is what got me the issue.

I am at a point where I just want to switch back to Win 7 which was working fine originally. Is there an easy way to switch back if I did not get a DVD with my laptop? I am OK formatting.

    Thanks

There's only a way to do it. Here it is! You'll need the Windows disc though.

    Thanks for the link.
Was a DVD supposed to come with the box originally? My box is in the attic and it's a mess in there but I'll find the box. I was just under the impression no DVD came in it and I could use the backup partition/repair partition to reinstall

    cheers
