How is the performance in most games at 1366x768 resolution? not full 1920x1080?

High res requires a lot of Memory. Though, it does stress the gpu.

I would say you would see 10-30% increase in speed.

I recommend to play at your monitors native resolution, as it is easier for the gpu.

play at native resolution, just lower the graphic settings. Most people agree that will work and look better.

Thanks guys. The reason i wanna run at lower resolution is because i would like to plug the hdmi to a 3dtv but games wont run at 1080p but they run at 720p no problem.

So would the 460m run at 720p no problem with most games?

Almost definitely. It's about the equivalent of a 5870, and everyone knows how powerful that is.

You might struggle with crysis on higher settings, but there isn't a game that you "couldn't" run at medium or low settings, most at high or ultra

There has only been a few games I haven't been able to run in 3D at high or better on playable frame rates with an overclock of 800/1600/1400 at native res(1080p) so you shouldn't have an issue. Now if you're one of the guys that has to have 50+fps(basically 100+fps in 3D) and maxxed settings then yeah you might want to go with a desktop lol.

awesome! so which games and what kind of framerates have you been playing at? any shortcomings that you wish you could change about the system? as long as i can hit 30 or more in most games, then i'll be a happy guy.

Question: What does "native resolution" mean? Does that mean the 1080p resolution of my monitor? Or does that mean the default settings at which the game has set on its own?

    Please advise. TYIA!

If your monitor is a 1080p monitor, that is its native resolution. It refers to the monitor, not the game. If you're playing at native, your video card doesn't need to scale the video.

Thank you! So we're all gonna be at 1080p then. And according to notebookcheck, the 6970 will destroy any game that I personally will ever play. That's basically like 3 on that list lolz.

the problem with using hdmi 1.4 for 3d is that it won't pass a 1080p signal at 60 hertz, only 24 hertz for blurays. apparently the tv receives 3d signals for gaming at 720p in 60 hertz (I have read the same for ps3 games too).

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong. And the consensus seems to be that the gtx 460m will run most games in 720 well in 3d mode. Any other input is appreciated!

Gryphyn is right, thats where you loose performance when going with a lower res than your monitors max because your GPU has to work that much harder to scale it to the smaller size.

wt66. The PS3 is using HDMI 1.4 which limits the fps at 1080p at 48hz 24fps per eye.

HDMI 1.4a can at 1080p at 60hz 30fps per eye.
