    Hello,

    can someone tell me if that graphic card will work in my alienware 17 r1 without issues? before i have 880m with 3pipe heatsink, but its burned right now :( One of my friends have gtx 980m 8gb from MSI gt80 for sale, so i think about something to replace old one

    p.s - that copper backplate from clevo let me go down some celsius? :vbconfused:

    I think it will be worth it if you have a fan that blows on it. Otherwise , I don't how it would get cooled since it's underneath the gpu. And the gpu fan is blowing towards the fins to cool top of gpu.

    As far as I had read, the backplate won't fit at all, due to lack of space.
    But never tested that myself, altghough I had a card and backplate from Clevo, but was just too lazy :D

    It should fit as the AW 17 has no obstruction where the card is installed. I have plenty of them. I can try and pop it on a 880m and verify.

    The backplate isn't really worth it. The main thing you have to worry about on the 980m is cooling the VRMS

    im living in switzerland and temps in summer inside my room are 37C thats why my 880m died, need to go down with temps cuz sometimes after 2-3h playing WoW they are 93c( i dont check it all the time while playing), so maybe i try fan mod with bigger CFM + that copper backplate, what do you think about it?

    @Rengsey R. H. Jr.

    yes if you can check it would be great, and one more question thermo pads are exactly the same or i need another one?

    Pop in the m17x r4 GPU fan, that is much superior over that of the 17.
    It is something like 12 or 13 cfm.

    ^ if you want to cool your gpu, get the 5 pipe heatsink off ebay and also the m17x r4 gpu fan, then get some thermal grizzly kryonaught and some good thermal pads. My 980m never got over 65C after doing all this in my r4 and that was only with the 3 pipe heatsink

    I always used a 980m in edp mode. I guess some people have gotten it to work in lvds mode. Do you have windows 8/10 installed?

    Works fine in LVDS mode - Most likely your card is broken if it is not showing up in device manager/bios or you dont have the right BIOS. Make sure you have a UEFI GPT installation of windows and your BIOS is set to UEFI mode. Enable "always enable Peg" and if you are using optimus make sure to enable a muxless dynamic and fixed mode is turned on in the bios.
