I haven't had any issues with my dual 6990's in a long time. They've been undervolted @ 1.02 and I haven't had a single problem - until today. I've been running the 8.96 March 15 version of 12.4 (one of the better benchmarked drivers on benchmark3d.com) for a while now without fault. Today I downloaded and installed GW2 and in the character creation screen my machine shut off. That had never happened to me before. In the past, when my voltage was too low while trying to figure out the lowest working voltage (to keep better cooling) my screen would just go black until I manually restarted. If I was playing a game, the sound would continue for a while but the screen would go black. Never have I had the machine just shut down. The blue light on the AC adapter wouldn't relight until I manually un/replugged it. I got back in to GW and managed to get into the game. Right as I take a step forward, it happens again. After replugging the AC to get the machine back on - I decided to update my drivers. I just went ahead and did the auto update from the CCC, instead of wiping the old drivers clean like I've done in the past. I also went ahead and removed the undervolt from my cards. After that I was able to play the game for about 20 minutes. I was doing some event thing and as it went into the cinematic (to denote the next phase / completion of the event) the machine shut off. I wanted to check my temps so I re-undervolted the cards, plugged in my external monitor and launched HWINFO64 / 3D Mark Vantage. I was getting normal temps throughout the first few tests but after that the machine shut off again. Now I went ahead and did a clean install on the drivers (ccleaner / driver sweeper), plugged in my Kill A Watt and ran vantage again. This time vantage completed (with a normal score). One thing I found odd was how high my watts got in testing. At one point they got over 250 (just for a second). I never remember it reading that high. Its been a long time since I've tested, but I do recall it being lower. That was the last test I did. I'm going to retry vantage again in a minute. I will say this, though - I was just in the hurricane and lost power for a few days. I stayed at my mother in law's house and they had a generator. Unfortunately, the cord that we got for the disconnect box (in order to plug the generator into the house as opposed to just using it for a few appliances via extension cord) was too short and left the generator semi exposed to the rain. While we were plugged into the generator it was getting rained on and all of the appliances plugged in (including my laptop as I sat there playing diablo 3 ) felt sort of tingly at certain points. Could the wet generator have damaged my AC adapter? When I first got my 6990's I was having all sorts of issues with power (screen going black while sound played - not the shut off issue I'm having now). Before reformatting I purchased a new AC adapter (the one I'm using now). The new AC adapter didn't seem to make any difference until I reformatted, which fixed all of my issues. Long story short - I have two AC adapters. The one that came with my machine, and the one that I purchased under the assumption that the original was faulty. I'm not sure if the original is faulty, but it may be worth trying it with GW2. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do here? Could my AC adapter have been damaged? I wasn't having any issues with D3 / WoW / SC2. If the AC adapter was damaged - wouldn't I have issues with those games too? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Also, my Watt meter reads about a max of 275 in GW2 with my graphics turned up to what I want them @. I stay lower with graphics.
WoW Seems to stay on average about 70-90 watts lower than GW2 at any given time.

I had the exact same thing happen with me when I first started Guild Wars 2 (well in the first hour or so). Interestingly it happened after I exited the game, and attempted to sign back into it. Was logging in and the power just shut off to my laptop. I've got my kill-a-watt set up now to monitor it to see if that is what caused it to occur, but with all the other games I'm running (Metro 2033, Diablo 3, WoW, etc) never had that occur. I'm under-volted to .96 and slightly overclocked and the temps were great (70C maximum), so also under the impression that it tripped due to over wattage (although again, never had an issue with any other game).
Very strange indeed. -
Does anyone know if they ever fixed the power throttling issue with the M17x R2?
