Not sure what happened but I did the upgrade last night to Windows 8 that appeared to go smoothly. This morning I unplugged it off the A/C, brought into work with me and turned it on. To my surprise the resolution had been changed to 1024x768. I went to my desktop properties to adjust it and it was showing as "recommended" and 1920x1080 was not there along with most other resolutions. I attempted to enter my Nvidia control panel and launching it failed.

It seems that the driver for my Intel HD 3000 was now missing or corrupt. I checked for Windows updates and it located one for my Intel HD driver. So naturally I let it update. Well update failed again and again on this driver. Not sure now what I should be doing..

Problem is not with my Nvidia driver. This issue is with the intergrated graphics driver.

ah alright, forgot Nvidia didn't package the Intel Driver with their driver's like AMD. Have you tried a win 8 intel driver?

Thanks I can give it a try but I also noticed the one you posted is a beta driver for the preview version of Windows 8. Wouldn't the windows 8 auto updates look for the latest one regardless?

I'm having the same issue with a brand new M17x-R4's Intel HD 4000. Windows Update fails every time to install the drivers, and I can't run any games on it because my computer refuses to use or recognize my 680M if the HD 4000 isn't working properly.

    I just noticed that there's a Windows 8 driver available on Intel's site: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...sion=Windows 8, 64-bit*&DownloadType=Drivers

I'm at work so can't see if a manual install works. But maybe you can.

Odd.. For me updating through Windows update caused problems and same thing if I tried updating the driver through device manager. I was able to finally get mine installed when downloading and installing the latest Windows 8 version from the Intel driver section on their website. Personally I never had any vendor error.

I've downloaded and installed the Windows 8 driver from Intel twice now. The first time was this past Saturday after upgrading to Win 8. Then, I had to do it again this morning because Windows 8 suddenly detected a problem with the driver and the nVidia card was no longer detected.

That's the exact download I'm using. I don't what's happening to cause the issue. I also have one "unknown device" indicated in Device Manager for which I cannot find a driver for.

I had that same unknown device in my device manager. If you try to update it through device manager Windows will search for the driver online, find it and begin to install it only to fail. I suspect it to be the HD 3000 driver. But as I mentioned if I download the driver to my desktop and run it from there it installs successfully.

What exactly happens for you? And I did notice there were several Windows 8 versions there. I saw the version # changed a bit so you could try another one or 2 versions of the Windows 8 driver to see if the same thing happens.

The corruption seems to occur after I power up from a shutdown. It happened again at lunch today. I think I'm going to reinstall Win 7 and wait for Dell to get the drivers updated for 8.

So did you re-install WMP? I added mine on the other day but personally haven't had any issues that I can see but then again I haven't launched it yet either.

    Successfully updated.

Drivers seem fine no issues as of yet.
