Is this normal for the crossfire HD 4870m to perform at only 30 FPS in Starcraft 2 game? My desktop's single HD 4870 with identical game setting shows 60-70 FPS!! I know mobile version of the graphic card is not as powerful as the desktop version, but only 1/4 of the performance? Two HD4870m will bring it to only 1/2 of a single desktop HD4870? Is this a true statement? Could somebody please confirm if they get the same result playing Starcraft2?

@ what settings? Isn't 30fps enough for game like SCII anyways?

Haven't played it for a while, but I thought my system played it pretty well.

Yes, it does plays smoothly with that FPS count. But I was just wondering if that's what I suppose to get from a crossfired 4870m or is it because one of the two cards failed. Can anybody give me a suggestion of some of the programs that I can test this? GPU-Z ?

Ok, I'll give that a try and compare it against some of others' results. Thanks.

I have 4870 XF in my R2 with a 520m i5. I get about 30 FPS when playing multiplayer with everything set on ultra. When things get crazy it goes down to 10 FPS. I do a mix of settings now and usually play around 60-90 FPS. Can't really tell the difference with some of the setting turned lower.

Depends on CPU a little bit, as well as the drivers/bios you are using and whether you have the xfire profile configured correctly.

Hard to weigh in at all without that information.

To compare, with a single HD 4870 and the i7 940XM cpu, my framerate generally stays above 40fps these days. This is with BIOS A09, no profiles installed, and Catalyst 10.7.

IC....CPU definitely factors in. My m17x is runing on the 720qm.

Thanks for confirming similar result/FPS, od37. That reassured me that my Xfire is functioning fine :)

also note the fps vary with the sc2 patches and driver version

in the beta i could get as high as 60-70 fps with my 4850's in CFX in ultra

but these day i'm getting a hard day maintaining 50 fps with ultra and cat 10.8

50 FPS for 4850's in CFX is good. Mine is 4870's Xfire and it can only go to 30 FPS max with everything set on High and Ultra setting.

I am almost done with Brood War then I will be able to get some more 4870 CF numbers for you in SC2 as well (Got 2 then wanted to replay all the way through SC1 and BW lol)

Have you made sure that you have the Catalyst Application Profiles updated? That has the profiles optimized for individual games to make sure that you are optimally using crossfire

I made a fresh install of Windows 7 two weeks ago and grabbed the latest Catalyst driver from Dell's website. I know the desktop version has a new driver that is optimized for Starcraft 2 anti-aliasing, etc. I updated it on my desktop, but i don't think they have the mobile version for HD4870m yet though.

That could make a big difference since most of 10.9 was making SC2 work better. I believe there is a modded 10.9 that works with laptops on Guru3D forums or something like that.

Also when comparing the 4870m's to a desktop 4870, remember the laptop is using GDDR3 not GDDR5. I found that my Laptop 4870s about equaled my desktop 4890 in most cases.

Anyone know if they have fixed the problem with overlapping Pylon placement grids? It sucks having to turn model detail down when playing as Protoss because of that one nasty issue.
