It about $250 more than 6990m, not $300. Nvidia also has 120hz instead of 100hz and that is also a big factor for some.

Price difference depends on when you look i saw $200 one time and $300 another.

anyway, 3d actually doesn't worth it and you get better performance for less so for me, the choice is clear

See I am the exact opposite. AMD has such inferior drivers and updates that it is not even funny. My first mobile card from them and it had nothing but crashes and it was a faulty GPU. Had desktop cards from them in the past and needless to say, paying the extra cost was worth it..

Now since 3d is out, the 120hz screen is head and heals above the 60 hz version. So someone that wants the 580m and a far superior screen can get it for $2000.......a bit spendy but not bad.

It is currently a $300 upgrade from the 6990M. Plus, you have to pay another $200 for the screen upgrade and the glasses, so all in all it's a $500 "upgrade".

Again, the only difference between the 60 Hz and 120 Hz 1080p screens is refresh rate and 100 nits of brightness, per Dell's specifications. The brightness difference is also essentially negated if the display is professionally calibrated, since the brightness will be cranked down a fair bit (eg. a calibrated 120 Hz screen and a calibrated 60 Hz screen will look the same).

If you have benchmarks or official specs that indicate otherwise, please post them, but otherwise please qualify your statements as opinion.

Never said that my statements were fact...

Of course it is an opinion. Everything on this thread is purely their opinion!

I don't know about you but desktop graphic card (ati or nvidia) have rating on neweggs and as such I never ever get a bad gpu, but unless your talking about notebook, then I can understand.

Everybody has a different experience with their cards. I never, EVER, had any problems with my ATI cards, driver related or otherwise. I was just unhappy with the 7200 performance... But like you said, it's just one's opinion and experience.

Could also be that nvidia wasn't expecting a card to match or even best the 580 anytime soon, hence their price tag. Overall we're talking about either getting the best AMD or nvidia notebook card. People are just trying to justify the price difference...

I will have my 6990M on or before 8/12 (according to my rep), at which point I will post benchmarks at stock and overclocked configs.

    I just try some benchmarks with my new M17x R3, i7 2820 6990m 4gb ram.

I didn't used the 11.8 preview drivers, just pull it out of the box and run the benchmarks...

I prefer Nvidia over ATI but prefer cash to Nvidia ;) Performance looks nearly the same. I was considering just going 560m (asus or msi) so the 6990m is definately way faster than that.

Still no clear cut bench marks for both GPUs..here or even in other websites...I really wonder whats with the slowdown in reviews lately.

Perhaps there is fatigue in the market.

What programs and settings do you guys want to be used for benchmarks? I just got my R3 today and am doing a clean install of Win7 right now.

Let me know and I'll run the benchmarks either tonight, or when I get home from work tomorrow!

But please let me know what programs and which settings you want me to use so that we have a standard to work with if possible.
