Hello everybody. I am looking into buying an Alienware m17x laptop. This will be my first Alienware system so I am pretty excited. However, I am shopping on a budget and am looking for a few ways to trim some of the cost off.

First off, I am very experienced with computer hardware. My questions are really going to only apply specifically to this alienware laptop.

On the Dell website where you are building you Alienware laptop, I cant help but notice that the price they charge for RAM and HDD upgrades is outrageous.

That is where my question falls. Is there anything about this alienware laptop that would prevent me from buying more reasonably priced RAM and HDDs to either expand its capabilities or set the HDDs up in a RAID configuration?

    Thanks everybody.

No, save yourself some money & get the ram & ssd elsewhere. I've added a Samsung 830 ssd & 16gb ram to my m17x r3 (it's easy to do), works like a charm
