My PC speakers and headphones don't work anymore, I get the 'no speakers or headphones are plugged in' with the red X on the bottom right icon on my M17R4

Dxdiag says I don't have any audio drivers installed at all?

When i go to the nvidia setup it says no audio capable device available, unless I plug in my HDMI cord then it works through the HDMI

I go to sound manager and once again nothing? I have installed the Soundblaster drivers and Recon thing from alienware and run it and it won't work...

It was working fine just yesterday!

has anyone else had this problem?

I hope my motherboard didn't fry in that one spot that I use :(

Thanks for helping in advance as I am totally stumped!

Hi, I had the same problem with my R4 for quite a while. If I right clicked the red x and selected the troubleshooter it would fix it until the next restart.

I was just putting up with it but then I had a HD failure so dell came out to replace it and re-install windows. I know they have to install the stock drivers so I thought this would be the time to get it fixed. BUT, it's worked perfectly since the re-install.

    Good luck.

Yeah I can't even fix mine via the little speaker icon troubleshooter. Just going to buy a 7dollar usb sound card for the time being... bleh

@sonies, this is the standard creative audio chipset failure problem.. You'll need a motherboard replacement to fix this sadly... it started of like this for me too and eventually it came to a point where I became frustrated and Dell replaced the mobo... I don't have the problem now..

Well since my PC is nearly 3 years old I doubt they'll replace it but worth a phone call I suppose. Until then the USB sound card will have to do. Thanks for the help!

There's also a BIOS update that was released to fix that issue. If the issue isn't solved with that then you'll likely need the motehrboard replacement, but it's worth the try. Try the latest BIOS available, it should have the fix implemented.
