How come my 1080p monitor looks so beautiful while using my laptop, but he image quality drops drastically when using the HDMI In?

My Xbox 360 is set to 1080p output, so I figure it must be something to do with the way the screen works...

Hmm. I use the HDMI-in with my Xbox 360 as well and my display looks normal to me. Though through a similar discussion in this forum awhile back a few thought the display was a bit dim (myself included) and there are no controls to brighten the screen. Some thought there was a tint of blue in their display as well. But as for the quality of the 1080p output from the xbox, I think you should see a rather nice picture.
