Just tried the HDMI in on my M17x R3 and it works beautifully. The only issue I had was with audio. I believe I had it set for my surround sound receiver, so I had to change it to two channel PCM. Before that when I started playing Deadspace 2, it made a horrible sound.

So make sure you set your sound to auto-detect with HDMI and you should be good to go.

DARCODER: That's weird, I thought the PS3 would be able to display 3D effects on something like the M17X's screen. Do you think it's because it needs a system update?

I was hoping to play future PS3 titles in 3D on my M17X... that's a downer.

Will never work. The HDMI input doesn't support 3D signal over it...Most 3D capable monitors don't support 3D on the PS3 as well, you need a "Smart TV"

If PS3 allows an external emitter for 3D signalling yup. But with Sony aka SueMe I doubt it.

HDMI-in feature is very picky with the input source. It's not as convenient as a TV, unfortunately :( If you're on looking at your desktop and you haven't turned on your device yet, and you hit Fn+F8, it won't change to a black screen like your tv's HDMI channel. It'll just display the small window in the middle your screen that is titled "Alienware On-Screen Display-HDMI-IN" and says: "Please connect HDMI input Device". Even if you plugged in your device and you turned it on (e.g. PS3), it won't change to the HDMI-In screen unless your PS3 is done loading the XMB :(

In conclusion: HDMI-In is VERY PICKY :p

I just responded to what you meant by picky in your thread, but I see now.

I think this is simply the nature of HDMI HDCP Handshaking. It usually takes a second for it to be made, same thing happens when I run my Xbox or PS3 through my Belkin converter to my iMac. Takes a second, screen flashes, and then picture and audio come up.

I have a panasonic VT25 and a samsung plasma c8000 (living room) both of which are the best two 3d tv's on the market. I'm sorry to bust everyones 3D bubble, but 3D and gaming is a 10 minute feature. It's not practical and its still horrid in terms of performance. There is too much ghosting (imagine zo0ming-in in COD:Black Ops and having 2 cross hairs and 2 targets) , there is an incredible ammount of flickering and the resolution always drops making it seem like a ps2 game. Save your money guys

^^ I would have to agree to disagree though we are getting off topic. I love the 3D and it is worth it IF you like it and not IF you don’t. I too have both the Panasonic VT25 and the Samsung C8000 which agreed are the best. The disagreement on 3D is HUGE and both groups can send nasty insults to each other as much as those arguing between nVidia and AMD graphic cards.

FYI: We have a 3D thread

Has anyone tried this with a 360? On mine, there is some definite ghosting. there's a faint second image to the right of the original, and it's really dissapointing. :(
    Am I alone here?

HDMI-IN is just a straight input - plug in your device (external Bluray player, cam, console, etc.) and the video/audio is piped into your 17xR3. That's it. You aren't going to be able to capture it, use NV 3DVision, etc. Think of it as simply a monitor and a set of speakers. Thats it. ;)

Lets leave the 3D discussion for the thread in place -

    Thanks.

Not sure if this is correct (i.e. like it's an actual wire running through from the HDMI-in slot to the monitor. I think the signal might be getting "funneled" through somewhere else too, cuz it comes out a bit fuzzy-wuzzy on the screen, as opposed to perfect like when we're not using hdmi-in. Cuz when I play my PS3 on my regular desktop monitor (LG E2050T led-backlit monitor), it's near perfect, and that's "straight input" from ps3 to the monitor.

Nice TV BTW. I have a C8000 plasma in my living room as well. What do you have for surround sound? :)
