Hey guys im wondering if anyone knows how to control the HDMI INPUT settings on the new Alienware 17? I have my PS3 and X360 hooked up no problem but the screen looks really dull no matter what resolution i put the console in.

Any help here would be really really appreciated!

    Thankss :)

Have you tried changing the refresh rate? I believe there is nothing that can be configured on the HDMI in.

Some other random ideas...make sure super-white is on on the PS3, and expanded range or whatever it's called?

Also make sure1080i is unchecked maybe. Could also be an issue that the HDMI input doesn't scale well, perhaps, since most current gen games are 720p or below?

On a PS3, most games are 720p even if you set your console to output 1080p. Most games will play in 720p as soon as you leave the PS Home and enter the game. Things will look a bit pixellated because some games lack AA. Do the colour options suggested above and see if that helps.

The Xbox 360 is different and has a inbuilt scaler chip so games that are 720p will be rendered in 720p but the Xbox will always output 1080p.

Thanks for the comments! Will give all suggestions a try :)

Just want it for when GTA V launches!

Also it isnt really an issue for games that you can adjust the brightness in-game, but for ex FIFA 13 doesnt allow in-game colour brightness change so it looks very very dull and colourless :/

If I were you I'd just play the PC version of Fifa '13 anyway. It actually looks way better graphically.. And you can bump all the NV control panel settings to the max on this game. If it's a matter of money and you don't want to buy it you can easily find cracked versions around the net. But that's one of the many games I prefer on PC over my 360. The 360's graphical power hit its limit years ago.

This has nothing to do with refresh rate. I threw anything at the hdmi-in of my m17x r4 trying to puzzle this out.

What the TS and I (probably all other hdmi-in users) need is a screen-button to control brightness like you can find on 'regular' LCD screens. You can't access it with software (not Nvida control panel or AMD CCC) as I assume its all hardware wired, completely ignoring the operating system (or any software) running on the laptop.

I would really like to know of anyone figured this out.

I just gave up. Not even worried about trying to play a console through a 2500 dollar laptop. Pointless really.

I plugged a PS4 into my alienware 17 and it plays ok though a dedicated monitor would be better.
