When I plug my laptop into the TV, the video works fine, but the sound only plays on my laptop speakers. I have tried updating my audio drivers, my video drivers (the latest ones on the nvidia site AND back to the older ones still hosted by dell in their driver section) and I am having no luck.

Google searches havent yielded many results either and I am really stuck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My vid card is the 580m.

When you have the HDMI plugged in, go to Start > Control Panel > Sound and make sure the HDMI out is selected, right-click on it and click Test

In the sound control panel, Select the HDMI Output and click the Set Default button. If you want to return to your laptop speakers or headphones, select Speakers/Headphones and click Set Default.

All the options you guys mentioned are greyed out. It doesn't recognize that the HDMI out is plugged in!

^ no luck with that either. Does anyone know If its the sound driver responsible for HDMI audio or the video driver?

TVs sometimes have a setting where you need to select external sound in. Is there anything like that on your TV?

^try this. I use an aw2310 an there I an option on the monitor to disable sound through hdmi. There is also an option in nvidia control center. It is a drop down box? Hdmi sound enabled and hdmi sound disabled. I would assume catalyst has a similar option.

My TV doesn't have such and option. Here is what I see trhough nVidia control panel. Seems like something is screwy. Could the problem be the modified vbios I installed to get rid of the p1 throttle?

I'm at work right now and can't look but click where it says change resolution I think. Should be a drop down box that says hdmi sound enabled and hdmi sound disabled.

^ You remind me of Apple's customer support :p. haha jk. But yes a bad HDMI cable could be the reason you aren't transmitting sound.

Nvidia control panel doesn't solve the problem, neither does switching cables and HDMI ports. I guess its time to contact Dell, but I really don't wanna go through all the procedural crap...ugh.
