Hey guys... my issue now is with the HDMI audio. When I try to adjust the configure the speaker setup there is only an option for Stereo. Even the internal speakers has options for 5.1! What do you guys see for configs on your HDMI audio? Also, these cards support HD audio right?! All I see is PCM. no Dolby® TrueHD or DTS HD Master Audio.

    Hi joelhr,
You may want to check the support section of Dell's website to ensure that you have the most current sound driver. Also, I recall an update for HDMI via the BIOS. However, this was only for correcting sound issues.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Does anyone with CF 5870's have this problem? The only speaker configuration I have listed is the stereo under HDMI audio. My receiver is an Onkyo 701 with support for 7.1 audio

    Hi Joe

Your question was interesting but not sure what you are trying to do. Are you trying to play a PC game using HDMI audio, or are you trying to watch a blue ray on your television and use the computer as a blue ray player or are you watching blue ray on your computer and using a reciever for sound playback?

If you are trying to watch a blue ray you will need to use the Cyberlink Power Dvd software and follow the Blue ray pop up menus for channel selection.

According to AMD the mobile 5870 has an Integrated HD audio controller and output protected high bit rate 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI with no additional cables required. Suppose to support AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio formats.

I think some non HD outputs will remain 2 channel. However you should be able to convert your two channels to 5.1 via the receiver. Your amplifier has a feature called Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II which should convert any 2 channel source to 5.1 channel (stereo surround).

You can try downloading and installing the HDMI drivers from Realtek. To do this:
    • Visit the Realtek download site.
    • Click on the High Defintion Audio Codecs (Software) link.
    • Accept the agreement (if asked).
    • Download the ATI HDMI Audio Device driver.

This method has been reported elsewhere in the forums, and I people have reported that it has worked.

@Outlaw420: Can you please add your system spec to your signature? (User CP > Edit Signature). The driver above will probably only work with ATI 4870 graphics and not the nVidia 260/280 graphics that can come with the R1. If you put your specs in your sig it's easier to help you.

    No problemo.

Now I just wish my system would hurry up and turn up, so I can test out the HDMI audio (and everything else!)... :D

    Hold on mates :)

    Here is what Legitreviews said:

From: ATI Radeon HD 5870 DX11 Video Card Review - Bitstream Audio Testing - Legit Reviews

I don't quite get it. Does that mean I cannot get true DTS and Dolby Digital signal to my receiver?

Can you guys confirm once again that you guys are getting true surround sound from 5.1 encoded media like Bluray, HD Video files etc... via HDMI?

And how about games? Does it work in games?

    Thanks :)

And let's say I wanna get true surround to my A/V receiver using HDMI, can I use other video output to transfer signal to my projector? In other words, can I assign audio to HDMI and video to VGA or Display

    Thanks :)
