I'd try contacting dell about it, do you have another connection to test the source?

Yesterday I tried installing an old Nvidia driver from Dell, 306.97 I used an INF to install it, it failed in the middle of installation after that whenever i try installing Nvidia driver it wouldn't recognize my 680m even though i'm using a modified inf.
luckly I have set a recovery point and I restored my system the way it was on 314.14.

any Ideas why this is happening? dell says that only drivers from Dell should work and the HDMI input is supported there

All I can say is that on my R3, following a 3xx driver install with a modded inf I had a very similar problem (but I don't use HDMI so no help there :(), even the dell ones needed a modded inf after that. To get it back to use the dell one I had to remove the NV driver in device manager and select to delete the software as well - following the removal of the other NV software through 'add/remove'. Curiously, on the reboot it reverted to the original dell version and I was then able to update it normally. YMMV.

I'm surprised dell even talked to you about it. I would have expected a simple '680m, not supported in R3' cop out.

Strangely though, in the M17x R3 Driver page, under the GPU drivers the 306.97 driver said they supported the 680m. I know thats not true at all but, we still can hope.. :p

I will try your method of uninstalling the driver. So basically you just remove all NV drivers from the Device manager, uninstalling all NV software from the program list then reboot

That is what worked for me. I reckon there is a best sequence for removing all the stuff other than the driver as you often have to restart to go to the next one but once only the video driver was listed in add/remove that is when I went to device manager and let that restart the machine by removing the device and selecting to also delete the driver files.

As for the driver and the 680, yes it is supported but the driver checks both a machine ID as well as a card ID. The correct combination needs to be in the inf file. The dell ones (I would expect) would not have your machine ID for the R3 and 680 combination?

NV ones never had my 675m for the longest time and I could only use the dell ones or modded until recently.

    Good luck. :)

I just tried your way... Alas it ended with "NV driver installation failed"
Im doing a recovery now. Im really out of Ideas. What freaks me out, what if im going to update the driver to a newer one, will it cause me the same problem?

    What do you suggest

I,ve only seen that problem with win 8 where a command line is needed to turn off driver verification. I'll give it some thought and get back if I think of anything.

PS what device shows up in device manager, 'vga compatible' or NV?

not trying to be sarcastic, but are you using the correct inf file for the driver version you are trying to install?

I have already disable the Driver signing stuff, the thing is , its whole different than while you leave driver signing on, after the error happen no other driver works, even if I try installing the 314.14 which I'm on right now.

I think so, the vetrsion is from dell website 306.97 I took the INF from LaptopVideo2goo. correct me if I'm wrong.

as long as you have downloaded the inf file for the 306.97 driver it should work.
I would try uninstalling the drivers for all the NV components (physx, hd audio etc.) then delete the actual NVIDIA folder in your C: directory then reboot. i usually use CCleaner to clean up the registry after i uninstall the drivers
    1-Reinstall the driver
2-when you get the installation error exit the installation and replace inf file
3-run the setup.exe file in the C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\3xx.xx\Win8_WinVista_Win7_64\International folder and see if that works

I have a strange problem, I tried to uninstall the NV programs from the program list when pressing Uninstall\change nothing happened... I don't know if this is the problem over here.
