So here's the dealio! M17x laptop, details are in my sig. :)
Connecting through VGA AND HDMI to a Samsung P2370HD television/monitor. It's a damn fine television and monitor but this whole HDMI+VGA mode that AlienSense pops up with every time both cords are connected, doesn't seem to be doing its job.

Here's what I want: video through the VGA, audio through the HDMI, to the TV and out the optical out to a Tritton Pro-720 headset. Simple enough I hope.. I can do the VGA video but I won't get the HDMI audio.. and I can do the HDMI video+audio but fullscreen video (games and otherwise) is black and flickery, but the sound is amazing.

Ack! How do I get the best of both worlds?

Do a video and audio update for starters. I didn't get good audio from HDMI till I updated. If that doesn't work, try updating BIOS.

After you get video running through VGA connect HDMI and set it as the default audio out by right clicking the sound icon on the taskbar and selecting playback devices.

Done and done, I have the most up-to-date IDT drivers, and the playback device is set to the ATI HDMI Out or w/e.

Problem is, I don't actually get the sound unless I set the TV itself to HDMI source. I don't get the HDMI sound if the TV is set to PC source. I just want the VGA video and the HDMI audio.. or at least have the HDMI video work properly and not flicker in games! :(

As far as the HDMI video goes everything seems fine as long as it's not a fullscreen game.. otherwise it flickers black and such.

Hmmm. Have you tried running HDMI to your surround sound instead? Or maybe disabling xfire?
