    Hey guys,

I was curious to if the HDMI-IN function no longer works with the 1070 upgrade in the Ranger?

If so, then I can feel better about getting a 980m instead, but just wanted to ask you guys who have the 1070 upgrade first. Thanks

I had lots of chances to check this but I kept forgetting. I am at work with my 17 but nothing to plug into it. I'll check it when I get home around 10 pm.

On my M18xR2 with 1060, HDMI IN works perfectly fine. Not sure if the same is to be expected of the newer 17 design.

Well we have precedent in one case then.

I just know someone else in the forum was having problems on the R4 with HDMI-IN so I figured I's ask those who have done the upgrade.

I want to lean towards the 980m just because of the price but if the 1070 works fine then I will have no reason to not get it.

Unfortunately boys the zotac 1070 does not work with hdmi in on the alienware 17r1. It just displays a blank screen. It does however playback full audio. I tested with a ps4 pro and I was able to clearly hear the menu and the controller tones when I pushed buttons. Seems maybe it's just a handshaking thing. Seems no reason why it couldn't work but would likely require some bios modification

Was the 1070 connected via Optimus or PEG? I should think it would work under Optimus since intel GPU does all the signal conversion, PEG may make more problems for HDMI IN

PEG only on my laptop. So i'm not sure. I know it worked with the old 780m.

1060 probably worked HDMI In with the M18x R2 because it was hooked up via Optimus. Nvidia broke many things with pascal, it should be a surprise to nobody. The HDMI IN hooks probably don’t even exist in pascal vbios. 580M through 980M all had hooks for HDMI in because they were certified to work in Alienwares

    What the heck? lol

@EepoSaurus you two have the same zotac card and vBIOS iirc

I assume you had Alienware OSD / Command Center installed Striker?

Just when I convinced myself the 980m would be "just fine" you gotta drop news like this ARRGGGHHH lol. Thanks @Striker1234

Well it turns out my switch works. I have no clue why my PS4 pro doesn't maybe because it was plugged in to output at 4k with HDR. Who knows. I'm glad @Striker1234 chimed in. Turns out it does work. I stand corrected.

Yeah that could be it who knows, hopefully you can get that remedied as I rather like having that function available.

It works on both of my rangers one with a 1060 and one with a 1070 you just have to have on screen display installed.
