    HELP!!! M17X R4 upgrade CPU from 2670qm to 3920XM

There is a problem when i change the CPU from 2670qm to 3920XM, it just black out and the shut down of the computer.

I am using GTX 675M, and my BIOS VERSION is X09, which is not in A version, is it the reason why I cannot use the 3920xm?

Can anyone help to find out the problems?

The first number in the CPU ID is the family - defining the chipset needed. You can only use 2xxx CPU's. You want the 2920xm.

EDIT: You say an R4? That is a 3xxx family and you had a 2670qm?? Strange, that is an R3 chipset - confused, sorry.

Yes my computer is M17X R4, I dont know why when I plugged in the 3920XM, the screen just go dark and power off.

When I change back to 2670qm, then that is no problem and back to normal.

Can anyone help on this issue?

Initial m17x R4 shipped with sandy bridge chips

That being said, OP should update to A10 unlocked and check for any beep codes.

Sounds like some sort of dell bodge, I have to wonder if they used the whole R3 motherboard and frigged it with that 'X' bios?

I got my R4 at the start of the model and the 680m it was supposed to have was in short supply so they released it with the 675m as the top GPU. Guess I got lucky with the chipset.

Whatever, I think you will be limited to the 2920xm as the best CPU you can use - anyone?
