    went though the regular motions?
check to see if the driver is active? try headphones in both of the slots? check windows update?

headphones work, but the speakers on the unit do not. Should I try reinstalling windows 7?

nah, that wont matter, Ide go onto windows update and only look in the optional and see if there is an audio driver.

windows also has a manual output selector. if the IDT chip is anything like the one in my R2, you can right click the speaker icon next to clock, select "playback devices" and make sure the check is on the speaker icon. if it isn't, right click the speaker icon and select "set default device."

One time back when I got a laptop with no sound but through headphones, the internal speakers were simply not plugged in.

consider yourself lucky when seeing all the other people here with video card and posting problems. :p
