On my alienware 17 r5, everytime i restart my machine i have to move the sliders all the way down in fan controls and then all the way back up otherwise it locks both at 2000 rpm. anyone know how to fix this?

are you using custom auto? if not you should cos that's how you can control the fans based on a table.

yeah im using custom auto. followed mr. foxes guide for the 18. but every reboot i have to go back and click custom auto otherwise its just stuck at 2000 rpm for both fans if i set start on windows boot. cant figure out why. Its highlighted in green custom auto but gotta click it to get it to work. thats the way it was in win 8 and now win 10

Yeah exactly the same thing with me. But for some reason it's just doesn't go to 4600 after a reboot. Just stays at 2000 regardless of temp. Didn't notice it today until gta 5 loading put me into thermal shutdown. Gonna play around with it tonight maybe it's another problem on my end

Okay I've figured out that it only locks to 2000 rpm when I close the hwinfo fan control window. The sensors remain open but it's not until I reopen the fan control page that the custom profile takes over again. Any ideas on what's wrong?

what it does is open the fan control windows but keeps them minimized. this works great when the app autostarts.

That seems to have worked. Are there any other things I have to add to hwinfo? I must of missed that post when I was going through the hwinfo setup thread

no, just that. make sure that EC support and GPU I2C support is disabled.

There's still no way to make the rpm increase gradually rather then 2000 straight to 4600 without shutting off the gpu fan?

that's because you can't, the fan tables are controlled by the EC and we have no access to it because dellianware locked us out of it. i have that problem too but i live with it. this is the closest you'll get to fan control.

Hey quick question about Hwinfo, I clicked on the fan profiles and i guess this automatically made it go into custom auto without any settings to make the fans spin, I just noticed and saw the GPU up to 93C and I can imagine it was around this temp for no more than an hour, how damaging can this be to the GPU? luckily I noticed and clicked on system auto to start the fans again.

it's probably because you have the EC support option checked in the settings. uncheck it, restart the app and then set the fans to custom auto. EC support disabled is splits the fan control between the CPU and GPU where they each have their own tables, with EC support on the CPU and GPU share one fan table.

so disable EC support and make sure that HWinfo is allowed to read the EC sensor.

Yeah, make sure that the EC support is disable, or you can only have access to the CPU fan.
