Could Anyone tell me the difference between these two fans for the GPU

The one on the bottom is usually much lower than the upper one. I feel as though the top one is the correct one and the bottom one is nothing. Could someone enlighten me please?

Hmm...I've never seen that before. I'll ask Mumak over on TI and see if he knows what that is.
-
Thanks man. Its been baffling me for awhile now. I'd love to know the answer
And just to clarify. I'm using 3.90-1455. But this has always been visible in previous versions -
Are you using the latest version of HWiNFO?
EDIT: Whoops, sorry you already are. Stupid me for not reading all of your posts. -
np
The one under COMPAL EC is definitely the correct one though. Is HWiNFO stable for you running LCP & EC Support? -
By that do you mean I can adjust my fan speed using the Custom Auto function? Then yeah. I don't get any instability when adjusting my fan speed or anything.
-
Yea. LCP & EC Support uses the COMPAL EC for a constantly variable and more accurate fan control. However it seems that some people would have stability issues (BSOD's, lock-ups/freezes etc.).
Builds 1450, 1451 and 1455 were made mainly to address that issue by using a new method of fan control that is less accurate but more stable.
However it seems that people using nVidia cards had the problem while ATI cards seemed to be ok for the most part. -
Ahh i see. No i haven't had any issues with that. Even in older versions I was able to control my fan speed. However, I havent been able to get my GPU fan to turn back off using the custom auto function after it has already spun up. For example I would set 45 degrees to be 0 RPM and 70 degrees to be 3000 RPM...When temps reach 70 the fans spin up but when the temps drop back down to 45 they do not spin back down to 0 unless I manually shut them off by clicking system auto again.
-
Hmm...that's interesting.
In the settings (Program>Configuration) check to see if you have EC-ACPI Sync enabled. Just a shot in the dark.
-
Ok HWiNFO is used for more than just Alienwares. The GPU fan speed that stays slow is usually tied to a desktop GPU card. The EC fans are the correct readings for laptop fans but as the laptop has a "fan for the GPU" and not a specific GPU fan like desktop cards, the reading are wrong. The Compal EC readings are all you need.

Here's the answer from Mumak:
-
Yeah its enabled.
-
And thanks so much that makes a lot more sense now. Now just to fix the issue with spinning down my fans haha
+Rep for all!
-
I just asked him about the fan not slowing down. We'll see what he says about it.
He might ask to see the debug file so enable debug mode and see if you can recreate that situation.
edit: thanks for the rep!
-
Theres a pic of the fans not spinning down at the settings I have. I made a debug file also but it wont let me attach it for some reason

You have to archive it first in .zip file to attach it.

done ^_^

KK I've given him all the info but he seems to be offline for now. We'll probably get a reply later tonight or tomorrow.
-
Sounds good. Thanks man
-
Here's the reply from Mumak:
So the next build should deal with that issue. -
Ok thats perfect. Thanks for everything man. i really appreciate your help
-
np...glad to help =)
edit: He's released the next build: link -
Nice! Im gonna try this out now. Thanks dude!
Edit: Works perfectly thanks again
