    Hi folks,

I just got a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB hybrid drive to add on to my M17x R2 that came with a 256gb SSD from new.

I installed the drive and booted the computer - I got the usual windows messages about windows installing the required software for my hardware, then it said it was ready to use. Unfortunately, when I go to my computer, the drive isn't there...just the SSD is listed.

If I go into the BIOS, it sees it there...so why isn't windows letting me see/access it?

The HDD was from newegg and didn't come in retail packaging with any discs or literature, but I didn't think I needed an install disc, no?

    Help!

*edit* I've installed 2nd hard drives on desktop computers before and never had an issue...this is the first laptop I've had with the capability of holding 2 drives, but I would assume the concept should be similar to a desktop...?

you prob need to go into

    control panel/administrative tools/computer management/storage/disk management

see if it lists a drive with no letter, you will need to right click on the Drive and select initialize or create volume. it should initialize it and you will be able to see it & access it then

Ok - did what you said and there it was - awesome!

I guess things have changed since I put a 2nd HDD in my desktop - I don't recall having to do anything like what you described, but maybe that's the difference between Win XP and Win 7?

Anyway, thanks for the help - that was easier than I was expecting it to be!

its more a change in HDD firmware and the way it interacts within the kernel. IT happens within Xp as well.
    glad to help
