Hi all, this forum has helped me a hell of a lot in the past, as well as providing me with access to catalyst drivers etc. So thank you for that.

I've been having a huge problem with my video quality playback (it's been extremely poor) and I've searched here for any help to no avail yet, so I registered and made a post. Hopefully I can resolve this issue.

Here's the situation: A week ago I installed the k-lite codec pack as I needed a certain codec to playback a video file. Unfortunately as soon as I installed it, I noticed the video playback quality of all my movies/tv-shows suddenly dropped dramatically. Uninstalling the codec pack didn't help and 720dpi MP4 files started to resemble AVI rips from 10 years ago. As you can imagine I wasn't impressed. Long story short, I struggled with other codecs/players trying to solve the problem, but I haven't been successful. I then thought that maybe the k-lite pack messed with my video card (Radeon HD 6900M) and tried to find the latest drivers on here (which I did).

My first question is, does anyone know how to just revert back to default codecs? In the hope that the video quality will revert back? Or should I install the new drivers, will that even effect video playback quality?

My next question: \ I have an Alienware MX17 with a Radeon HD 6900M and switchable graphics. Which Catalyst driver pack should I use? The mobility one or just the normal one? I have 64bit Win7 so I know I need a 64bit variant, but I don't know which one to use....

...which leads to question 3: I've been having huge issues installing the new drivers, with Windows constantly reverting to VGA gfx, or crashing with Blue screens, or just reverting to the original Dell driver from 2011! I've been struggling with this all weekend and I can't take it anymore. I'm a pretty tech savvy guy, but this whole driver thing is driving me crazy.

Please any help or assistance I can get from any knowledgeable people will be so appreciated! I would love to be up and running with the 13.4 Catalyst drivers.

    Thanks guys

Try running a system restore to a date before you even installed it.

    The mobility one.

    Try following this procedure.
