Hello, I have a problem with my m17x that i can't seem to figure out on my own, so i was hoping some of you people could help me out. :)

A while ago i had horrendous problems with stuttering and FPS drops while gaming, which led me to update my computer's BIOS. That fixed the problem for a couple of weeks, but now it is back, and i think i have found out why my computer is acting up like it is.

When i turn on my computer, it starts at about 1400 MB of physical memory, but starts dropping after i start gaming. This goes on until it reached 0 MB of physical memory, and 100% CPU usage, which i believe is what is causing my games to stutter and drop in FPS like they do.

Do you guys know anything about this issue, and can you help me out? I am quite a novice when it comes to the technicalities, but any help would be very very appreciated.

    Thank you. :)

What are your specs? What games? What drivers? etc.. 1400MB sounds low for a modern PC. That's less than 1.5GB of RAM. More information please :D

EDIT: Yeah the 32 bit OS part is important too, forgot because it's been a couple years since I've seen that issue pop up more than once.

Are you using programs that have bad memory leaks? Or are you using a 32 bit OS?

Thank you for the quick reply. :)

I am not sure how to find my specs, but i can tell you what i have figured out on my own.

    For processors it says: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9600 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz

It also tells me that i have 4,00 GB of RAM.

I feel like i am fumbling in the dark here. Is there some command i can run to figure out what my specs are, and which drivers i am using, and then copy-paste the whole thing here?

I also have this problem in every game I have tried (Dragon Age: Origins, World of Warcraft, Dawn of War 2 Retribution, Starcraft 2, Fallout New Vegas as well as others i may have forgotten.

    Thank you again :)

Yes there is a way. Ctrl+Alt+Delete will get you in the Task Manager, from there you can see if its individual programs or not. You can also see how much memory you are currently using. If your maxxing out... might be the problem.

Also try to goto Start and type in the search field "msconfig"

Goto the "Startup" tab and uncheck anything you don't want starting at the same time as your machine. Many older machines "gather" crap that starts with the machine itself.

Usually 4GB is more then ok... so not sure why it would be doing that unless your system isn't recognizing it. Check the Task Manager and that will tell you how much memory is operational.

People are also right about the 32-bit OS... You can't recognize more then 4gb of RAM... and a certain amount of it is dedicated to running the OS.

The last thing you can try is right clicking "Computer" and going to "Properties". If you goto the "Advanced System Settings" link on the left side, there is a field for Performance. Click the settings and make sure its set on max performance. The click on the Advanced tab in that window and you can bump up the paging as well (although this shouldn't be necessary).
