So I bought the ear force charlie turtle beach headset in the link below.
Limited Edition Multi-Speaker 5.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset | MW3 Ear Force Charlie | Turtle Beach
But I can't figure out how to hook them up to my m17x r3. They have a usb which is for the power, then a black plug for rear, green for fronts, and orange for center and sub, and a pink for the mic. Is there an adapter i need to buy or something? All I have is the headphone jack and the mic jack

Use the IDT control panel to enable 5.1 analog output. When you plug in each jack, the pop up should ask you what it is.

I'm not completely sure about this, in fact, pretty unsure, but aren't you supposed to be able to either choose between using only USB to hook them up to your PC / Xbox, or the cables?
Check the manual..

Problem solved, returned them for logitec g930

That works too (the g930 that is). The m17 does have enough ports. The four on the left side can be set to output everything you talked about. Mute point now.
The G930 is a great headset though.
