Did you try hooking up the laptop to an external monitor / tv? Maybe the screen is the issue.
    Does it beep at all?
Did you try using the laptop with the battery removed, and it just plugged in?

You can try pulling the CMOS (or coin cell battery) to reset BIOS. Leave it disconnected from the motherboard for a little while, then reconnect and see what gives. Whilst you have the machine open, I'd suggest making sure that all your connections are firmly seated etc....things like HDD interposer, Display cable etc etc....oh, and GPU! - any of them loose could be a problem.

CMOS removal on the 17 can be done - the procedure is described on page 87 of the Owner's Manual here: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod...laptops/alienware-17_Owner's Manual_en-us.pdf - it is quite a teardown, so maybe you want to try reseating everything that you can prior to removing the coin cell battery.

    Might come in handy:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-18-m18x/744099-reset-bios-alienware-18-a.html as it has several methods of resetting BIOS, but unfortunately, Dell did not design the machine (17) well in terms of simple coin cell removal.

Removing the CMOS does absolutly nothing to the Alienware 17 due to the nvram bios. Do not remove it because it is redundant .. It does and will do nothing to your system. On rare occasion the system may detect that it is not inserted but the exact steps for this have yet to arise.....someone posted this

It's hard for me to tell what the problem is. Assuming you just closed the laptop to go to work and then re-opened it and nothing happened would (to me) indicate that something maybe worked loose if the laptop had been in transit - that would be the first thing I would check. Reseat the gpu and memory and even swap the ram modules around, check hdd, and any other cables & connectors that you can and see if things persist.

Ahhh. You did not mention XTU or using it before. Maybe you should look at the thread that is linked in the post below from this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...clocking-bios-recovery-guide.html#post9479369
