Hi guys I've watched several tear down videos and searched but can't seem to come up with a how to on screen removal. In most tear downs the screen comes off after half the machine is stripped and all I'm looking to do is tighten my hinges (hoping that's the issue).

These are pics from another thread showing 2 screws holding the back lid plastic cover on. I just can't seem to find these screws. Any help is appreciated. Right now I have the power button panel off, keyboard removed and the black hinge screws out but for the life of me I can't even see any movement in the screen to chassis.

The first 2 pics are from another closed archived thread showing the screws. The last is my pic showing no sign of these screws.

My question is how do I get the back panel off this r2 so I can check if the screws are tight?

Yes my display is still obviously connected which seems to be where I'm stumped. Are there more than the 2 screws per side holding the hinge mount to the chassis? My pic:

Thx in advance I'm hoping someone has done this and knows why I'm stuck! My lid is so loose its like a bobble head

Oh it's crazy simple... But you gotta take off the keyboard. Then unplug the required stuff and take off the whole assembly. But yeah... It's really quite easy to work on. :D

I take it you watched the Dell teardown video, right? : M17x Teardown Part 2 of 2 **READ SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PRIOR TO REPLACING PARTS** (Official Video) - YouTube (very start shows the lid assembly removal) Part 1 can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j20wn96uac0

As mentioned above, you need to tear it down a bit more to completely remove the display assembly.

Basically, it's 2 screws either side to remove the display assembly from the base. Maybe you haven't got the lid at the right angle to "pull" it away from the base - you might have to give it a bit of a tug.

As for the screws in your top pic circled red, those are the two screws that hold on the black plastic "trap door" compartment on the lid - once that's off, you should be good to go....they are only visible when you have the panel removed completely - they are located at the side, under the hinge itself so whilst the panel is still on the base, you won't see 'em.

Thanks guys! I figured it out later I still had the palm rest on I just loosed all the screws on the top half and noticed it moved more. I removed the keyboard but not the palm rest. The top half shifts enough that the lid mounts slide out from under the magnesium piece and at the right angle the screen came off easily !

Thats strange...the palm rest needed to come off in the first place because you have to lift out the subframe as a whole.
The screws that hold down the hinge from the screen have 1 more screw on both sides BELOW the sub frame, so thats why you HAVE to lift out the frame.....or bend the frame so you can pull both hinges out but that would be lazy and you might break the frame :)
