Morning/afternoon/evening you all.
So yeah. I was messing around with rbedit and somehow I made a bad flash. I've been able to flash my card before with 800/1100 clocks and 1.15v (even got the custom A10 bios loaded without a hitch) so i'm at a loss with this suddenly happening.
Currently, as I press the power button, the fans spin up as normal, the keyboard shows it's typical lightshow but no display.
I still have the usb stick I used to update my card before to the A01 vbios, (currently it's got the modified A01, with clocks raised to a stable 800/1000 and 1.15v).
What to do..?
Looking forward to the help of you pro's. Thanks.![]()
***my system's running on one card only, I haven't upgraded it to crossfire yet. So boo, no second card to help me see what i'm doing.
Anyway, I uploaded a video of what's currently going on with my m17x, if you've got time, please check 'em out. I've provided links.
Please correct me if i'm doing anything wrong. Thank you!

~hold on, the usb i got would be the R281544 I got from dell. it's the automated one right? where you just plug in, boot from it, then everything's a-go.
would that work?
Or should I try the traditional atiflash way.
Btw, thanks a ton for replying! Thought no one would. -
With the R281544 vBios from Dell boot from the usb, wait 30-60 secs and press B to flash the cards. Wait a minute or two and press any key to restart.
-
hmm, so, I boot, quickly tap f12 for a few seconds, then hopefull i'd be in the boot selection screen? By then, how many arrow keys down would the usb be?
I currently have my windows seven in my 120gb ssd, then there's a 500gb storage hdd, then there's a cd in there...then the usb on the side. -
ok update. seems no matter what boot order I choose, (press f12, down arrow key, B. ) *stucks at nothing so fail* (press f12, down arrow twice, B) until it reached like the fourth.
Still nothing happens.
I also noticed, that when I press the letter keys too many times, each keypress just starts to BEEP.
What do I do?
Should I post a video of what's currently going on? thanks.
Looking forward to your replies. -
I speak under correction (and anyone can feel free to correct me) but try disconnecting your HDDs so the usb is forced to be primary boot device? Maybe disconnect dvd as well for safe measure, that way no F12 needed, it should just run the USB.
-
Try disconnecting the other graphics card and boot your machine. You might get your display back so you wouldnt have to flash it blind
-
mind you, i only have one 5870, and it's the one that's bricked.
I'll try the disconnecting thing.
Say, can anybody explain about the bios beeping after I keep on pressing the keyboard keys for a whiile? like it'd let me press any key for around ten or so seconds, then each time I press any key again, one beep comes out.
Thanks -

He has only one, so that is not an option
@GFY: I doubt you live in France I would've done it for you with pleasure!
Maybe a fellow NBR member that's willing to help lives near you , just a thought: ask for a volonteer and PM eachother your locations.
Also if you have a friend with a M17x even better.
Good luck, buddy -
Crap, I wish I was that fortunate. But i'm all the way from the philippines.
I bet only a handful of us have alienware systems. Over half of such own m11x's. (worse case scenario, I ship it over to you! haha. )
Anyway, I uploaded a video of what's currently going on with my m17x, if you've got time, please check 'em out. I've provided links.

I'll have to reach home after work to watch the video as I'm on the phone atm and with the crappy bandwidth I have where I am today it will take me hours to load it.
Man, if you could've waited till July to do a bad flash, I'll be there on vacation
If you think it's worth it shipping it twice (Ph -FR -Ph.) then I'll gladly do it for you. shoot me a pm.
PS: forgot to mention, we'll never know: if you opened your system, maybe it's only a matter of LCD cables badly seated.
Have you also tried a full power drain?
Cheers -
Wow, which part of the Philippines you landing your bum on?
Lol worse comes to worse, i'll just wait for you, lol. Moolah's rather low.
Surely, i'll wait for your reply when you watch the videos. Thanks.
****note, i tried disconnecting the card itself, and booted without and hdd's, and I got the BEEEEEEEP BEEEP-BEEEP. (1 long, 2 short) which means there's no video, right? So , with the bios being able to warn me about that, means it's alright. And it's really just the vbios that's all messed up.
Still don't know what to do.
P.S.
Awaiting much needed help. Thanks. -
^bumping this for all you pro's out there.

At least on my R2, the boot from USB is the second option down. (assuming you are booting from a bootable flash drive)
Did you try:
Hit F12 (to get to boot option menu)
Hit down arrow once
Hit enter (return)
Run the flash utility (exact option depend on your preferred method of flashing)
Wait a while (make sure it is done) then reboot?
If you had another system to boot from you could check your bootable media (flash drive) and see exactly what is on there so you know what you need to do to run it
Hope it helps

@debaucher
I've posted 2 videos of my attempts at blind flashing, maybe you can view them to better assess what's going on here at my side. And thanks.
-
from my experience if you were having card issues, then you would get the flashing lights on the left side of the screen. first thing you should do is a power drain.
- remove battery
- remove ram
- remove bois battery
- remove PSU
- Hold power button for 2 mins.
- see if there is any change after putting the components back in.
it seems to me that this is not a vBios issue, as you would get warning lights 99% of the time. the m17x is know for non post issues that require power drians from time to time so i would start there, that should always be your refernece frame of begining trouble shooting on non post issues. -
Thanks for taking the time to help out!
Ok, I just tried that. Held the button for 4 minutes even. Still nothing after that.
Right before my m17x "died", i was messing around with winflash. Last thing it display was my cursor that's frozen and a black screen behind it.
Cripes. Hmm... (still, anybody know what the beeping per keyboard press mean? thanks. It's on the second video. ) -
it means your system didnt pass POST, so its not taking command.
what were you doing with winflash? ive never flashed my Vbios with winflash so i hope you weren't messing with the system bios by mistake.. try doing a crysis recovery as described in the a10 modded bios thread. it sounds to me like you bricked your system bios. -
say if you had an Xfire system, could you flash one card separately? or does it has to be flashed in pairs?
-
Ok... tried the crisis recovery, and i THINK it worked. (because my system rebooted after 5~10 minutes after following instructions. still no display though.) Now i'm about to try the actual vbios blind flashing again, so hope it works. If it doesn't...well. Dang.
-
-
@razor16190
Even though it goes against common sense (bricked video card) I did. Still nothing.
*update
Seems the ctrl+alt+delete works in the bios, when I press those, the comp restarts but still i'm not able to blind flash. (oh, and when i press the power button anytime, it instantly offs. ) Any more insights guys? thank you. -
A little bit off note , but..
Will my warranty be void if
1. The service tag stickers /windows serial stickers are peeled off?
2. Custom painted the chassis?
3. upgraded my ram...my processor..my hardisk..
(if not, perhaps I can renew my warranty, I took a picture of my service tag and serials before peeling them off.)
Perhaps I can go file for a replacement card?thanks.
If not, back to brainstorming. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Have you tried blind flashing using ATIflash
hit F12 press down wait 30 sec press down once then enter then wait a minute type Atiflash -p 0 Bios0.rom?
How did you try to flash the Videocards in the first place? did you use ATIflash? -
3. RAM and HDD - No void, CPU - void
p.s - If only you were a bit closer, I could lend you a spare 5870 + crossfire cable (if it helps)
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
2 Yes that will void it
3 no this will not void it, but they will not support them -
@Mkelliny I used the r281544 supplied from dell, supposedly it's simply plug it in, then B, right? (I removed both hdd's, and my dvd drive has nothing in it). I did manage to do the crisis recovery, though the only way I can confirm it worked is that the machine rebooted itself. (and the ctrl+alt+delte keys work when pressed. Instantly reboot. Don't know if that's a good thing though.) Though the issue of the bios beeping if I press the keyboard too many times is still there. Power on, fans, etc sound normal though.
Though when I put my HDD with my OS in it, it doesn't exactly go straight to windows it seems. No fantastic windows welcome tune. -
@razor16190 Lol, come visit the philippines, i'd treat you to our local tastes if you do, haha.

Ok guys, made a new video of what's currently going on.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
if not here it is http://www.mediafire.com/?8z77cdd6rv0421r
Then you want to follow these instructions
download this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/112382685/SP27608.zip
and this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/112382778/bootme.zip
run the usb boot utility and use the bootme files to make the USB drive bootable
then download this:
Download ATIFlash 3.86 | techPowerUp
and place those files along with the Bios0.rom file I uploaded on the USB drive after you have made it bootable if you need more info on how to make it bootable refer to this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/246530-how-flash-your-bios-dos-using-usb-stick.html
after everything is set up on the USB drive you press f12 then press down twice hit enter
wait one minute then type atiflash -p 0 bios0.rom then wait 5 minutes and then press the power button. Then try to start your computer again if that doesn't work you have bricked your card beyond recovery and will need a new one. -
@MKelliny Hey bro, thanks for the reply. Can I request the two rapidshare links be uploaded into mediafire? There's this issue i've got with my local isp that doesn't let me use rapidshare. Damn. Please and thank you.
Oh, and have you check the vidoes i've made? -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST

Thanks bro, going to test it out in a couple of hours. (3:36am here. Gettin' some shuteye first
) Hope it works!
decided to give it a go before sleeping. *Crosses fingers* -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
-
Shoot. Somewhere halfway around typing atiflash -p 0 bios0.rom my bios just beeps with each keypress. Am I doing something wrong..? tried all sorts of combinations with f12+ down, f12+down down... removed all hdd's and just waited.. hmm. What's going on.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
-
Still beepin' with each keypress. what does that mean anywho? D:
-
Wait a while before trying F12.
I got the same once (but could see the screen) while it "hung" on the alienhead screen for a while.
(well, you can hit F12 every so often, get the beep etc... then when it is ready it will get to the boot option screen)
For me, it took about 2-5min to get through then all was good.
And for me, usb boot option is only 1 down (F12...... down arrow once.... enter)
Good luck
D. -
@debaucher hmm, still nada. Just the usual press = beep thing. Though ctrl+alt+delete works, fans, lights... (except mediabar and speakers, and of course the lcd. ) D: *is at a loss*
