    Hey Guys
    Trying to help s friend
He found a great deal here in Los Angeles
I figured someone can help him before He spends $3000
This guy lives close to me and was wondering what to look for besides stress testing and blemishes and stuff. How do I know it's new and not a Refurb?? I asked why he was selling and he said it was too heavy!
He says I can inspect it and try it out too.

I don't think there's anything to worry about since you will be getting it in person. How can it wrong? You can also look up the service tag prior to purchase and see if it's new or refurb.

I take it the service tag is on the bottom
Where do I look up the service tag?
Are there any known problems with the M17x I should know about or look out for?

I would take a thumb drive with GPU-Z and CPU-Z installed on it just to verify that the CPU and GPU that your getting is actually whats in there. Take a dvd to test the DVD player, or a blu-ray disk. Maybe Crystal Disk Info on the thumbdrive too to check the HDD information, although that piece is easy enough to swap out if the HDD is bad. Try and make sure the Windows 7 version is legit as well.

Check service tag on line and it's specs, warranty etc.

I bought from craglist before, and only thing I checked was service tag on the machine, warranty via onine, and transfer of ownerhship on the spot.

My machine was brand new in box, sealed so I didn't bother opening it on the spot. Plus the guy who was selling was a legit IT contractor who owned his own business, so I figure I'd trust him little more than any other jo smoes on CL.

i just put 3DMark06, 3DMark Vantage, CPUz, GPUz, and Furmark all on a thumb drive!
