Try this: Go to the alien head in your task bar, right click it and choose "Go Dark". Right click it again and choose "Go Light".

Did you try re-installing the Alien FX command center / Alien OSD ?

I had the same thing happen on my M11x, could never figure out why, though turning it off was one of the first things I did as I found it to bright and distracting being right under the screen, but when I tried once I was unable to get it to turn back on.

    Thanks for all the replies.
I did a bios update everytime I press the power button The "Alienware" under the screen lights up for 2-3 seconds and goes off again.

At least I know the light is working and since I have no big issues I decided I can live with that. I waited too long for this to arrive at my doorstep and I am not going to send it back just because of one light which probably i am going to keep switched off anyways :)

Could always call them, you got on-site support/warranty.
Don't settle for less, you paid for it and it should work as intended to.
