So, I have ordered one and waiting for it to arrive but meanwhile I have read a lot of threads pertaining to this topic on this forum, and theres is a lot of information a lot of which is like scattered between pages and pages of threads to utilise when required. so I was hoping to create this thread to request for help from my fellow enthusiasts and tech reviewers.
I have optimus enabled
have a 3 pipe heat sink
have a 240 watt adapter
have updated latest bios on motherboard
have told the seller to test and make bios for my Alienware r1 on the gpu
now my real concern is creating the .INF modified file, if I could get some help in creating it or if anyone has one already created and would love to share nvidia 425.31 64 bit modified driver.
it would be great help im also interested in learning it so if someone could explain to me I saw this one guide but it doesn't seem as proper if anyone else has a better guide kindly share.
im sure a lot of you are fed up with such thread but I really need help and don't want to ruin the new gpu that is coming. your help will be highly appreciated and will result in many well wishes for you from my end![]()

This is the best guide you can find I suggest you read it so you can understand the process. When you have done it once I suggest you save all your codes in a different file so you can just paste them in future driver updates. It is not as hard as it looks you just need to understand what is what.

yea bro, thanks for the link! it is exactly the same guide im using that I found from the many threads I have read and seen your presence and responses in a lot of them(threads) I was goin to pm you but the system didn't let me pm you directly for help.
I see you are running at 1070
I would've upgraded to 1070 but I was just gonna make a desktop pc now finally after saving for so many years but my gtx880m jus started to give crashes since 2 weeks now which led me to again coming back to these threads and start reading all the information posted regarding this topic.
so I decided to upgrade to 980m to get the laptop running again and be able to run some decent games when im mobile like dota2, csgo, destiny, warframe etc.
didn't want to spend 700+ usd for a 1070 atm. got good deal on the 980m for 300bucks. -
It depends, when I got the 1070 I paid something over 400$ for it but I also had to buy the 120Hz display and the EDP cable and all of it was a little bit more than 600$. You should be fine with the 980m though, as far as I know it's an easier upgrade, and you are already planning to make a desktop. BTW I don't know if you have seen my thread but the process of uninstalling the drivers, modding the .inf etc must be repeated every time you want to update your drivers.

bro sorry but can yo kindly post your thread link here
and I understand how to use DDU and remove drivers completely, and ill stick to the 425.31 driver from nvidia they seem to be providing good performance, so once I install the new the driver I wont install Gforce experience as usual and this wont really be bothered with updating new drivers as I usually play older multiplayer games on this and will use my desktop for proper fps games.
my only concern is modding the drivers correctlyim kinda nervous about that.
I just don't want to waste this laptop and hence buying the 980m and use this when I go for dota 2 lan parties or destiny 2 etc. -
I'll copy the part that's important:
- download drivers from NVIDIA's website
- if you start the installation it will ask you where to extract the files required choose a location and when the installation fails don't close it or it will delete all the extracted files, instead make a copy of the extracted folder and work on that to mod the .inf file ( I suggest this guide)
- when you are done modding the file you need to restart windows and disable driver signed driver enforcement ( quick guide here)
- now install the drivers using the .exe in the folder you copied and it should work, windows may alert you during the final steps that the driver is not signed just tell it to continue anyway and you should be good. If it doesn't work it means that you have not modded the inf correctly remember to put your IDs in all the different sections.
If you are interested here's the thread but keep in mind you won't be needing some of this.Maxware79 likes this. -
I have also disabled windows signed driver enforcement.
jus waiting for gpu to arrive and meanwhile was looking into understanding the method of creating the new device ID and modifying the drivers.
and if by any luck was looking if someone else has already created it and willing to share. -

I disabled it via advanced startup settings by pressing shift+restart then following the troubleshoot mode screen to advanced startup settings. So kindly correct me if im wrong and excuse my redundancy, the windows signed driver is perma disabled till I turn it back on? -
No it is disabled only for the next boot
